    The use of ICT among university’s lecturers in Medan, Indonesia: a comparative study

    This study is to discover the difference use of ICT between faculty members in Medan, Indonesia with regards to their demographic factors namely: gender, age, teaching experiences, educational level, and department of origin. A total of 260 samples were taken from the overall populations, where a survey was conducted among the academicians from three largest private universities. After the cross-tabulation statistical analysis was completed, the findings are promising. The gender, age and department of origin of university’s lecturers are proven to have a significance on ICT usage. In contrast, after many years of teaching experiences and with their educational level, it is found that it did not have any influence towards the utilization of the technology in their learning process. Thus, there are similar patterns of usage that were also found among them.

    Social enterprise for school dropouts through digital lifestyles : adapting from USA success stories
    Digital lifestyle has become a culture that each and every of us has to adopt and adapt to. The stability of Malaysia’s economy makes the quality of its citizen’s education and standard of living improve along with the income ranks. On the other hand, there is still a huge problem with regards to the school dropouts that influence the quality of life and social impact in Malaysia. These school dropouts should be exposed to self-regulating and self-employing so that they can be independent and able to move forward themselves away from the perils of crime. By manipulating the current digital lifestyles, majority of the school dropouts are familiar with the Information and Communication technology (ICT), the Internet and mobile gadgets. This paper recommends that the Malaysian authorities should come out with a prototype of the business model of Social Enterprise (SE) in order to deal with school dropouts that prefer to run business online as their income to support their lives. Some adaptation from the successful SE in the United States of America (USA) could be adapted in order to match with the Malaysian scenarios. The authorities might also work out spin-off businesses through provision of seed funds, including from interested private sectors, to these youths.

Now, the number of users navigating through the Internet is more than 2.4 billion. This large audience demands online commerce, knowledge sharing, social networks etc., which grew exponentially over the past few years. This paper provides a review regarding the use of social networks or social media, particularly Facebook as a platform in information sharing.

    Over the last 50 years, worldwide education has grown remarkably at all levels. Historically, these expanded education systems have never faced a greater challenge than COVID-19. The governments have forced the university to switch to online learning and virtual education overnights. As a result of COVID-19's disruptions to learning trajectories, institutions, lecturers, and students will continue to seek flexible ways to mitigate damage. The article incorporates a review of academic and policy literature concerning digitalisation and online learning in universities and how digitisation contributes to universities' development. The article outlines several useful strategies and steps to put into words how to develop a strategy for education during COVID-19. In this article, we explore processes, issues, and impacts of the rapid shift to digitalisation in higher education institutions (HEIs). The method has been used through online search in literature using bibliographic databases from the most relevant publications such as Scopusand Web of Science databases examined based on abstract and key words. This article discusses some of the ongoing issues that HEIs faced when they had to rapidly move their teaching online during the pandemic. For most HEIs and organisations across the globe, COVID-19 has accelerated the speed at which digitalisation and digital ways of working and service delivery include new ways of learning and working such as virtual reality (VR) technology. This has led to a recognition of the need for practically focused, effective inclusive digital interventions. The findings of this study indicate that policies and strategies are important for HEIs to overcome the COVID-19 challenges by using digital learning technology to plan and implement strategies for sustaining educational systems.

    Exploring digital parenting awareness during Covid-19 pandemic through online teaching and learning from home

    There is concerned that the students’ knowledge and skills are not par as those who experience normal education before COVID-19 pandemic. Digital parents ought to participate in their children’s new normal learning method because the students cannot have proper face-to-face education with their teachers and lecturers except online Teaching and Learning from Home (PdPR). For data collection, a questionnaire was developed using Google Form, and have been distributed to the children who are in schools, colleges and universities through WhatsApp application of the students or their parents for the children in the primary schools. The questionnaire consists the open-ended semi structured questions with some survey information along to each question. The emerging themes from the data are explained in Descriptive Analysis based from the 89 participants perspectives. The findings show that most of the children are ICT and digital literate due to the PdPR, and the things that they cannot control makes the PdPR become hard such as slow internet signals. The students agree that the parents could be qualified and skilled as digital parents if they got the financial and ICT skills supports from the Government of proper PdPR contents, and pedagogy of teachers and lecturers.
