PublicationIdentification of ARX Model for Thermoelectric Cooling on Glass Windows( 2022-01-01)
; ; ;‘Aqilah Che Sulaiman ; ; ;Arith F.Thermoelectric cooling (TEC) is a solid-state heat pump that uses the Peltier effect to dissipate the heat generated by the electronic packaging system. TECs are widely used in aerospace, military, scientific work and industry due to small size, lack of moving parts, and ease of integration. In this study, a cooling system integrated with TEC is developed in a testing area (lecturer’s office) with the aim to reduce the temperature of the hot glass window area due to solar radiation that passes through it. This cooling system used direct TEC, for keeping the cooling temperature on the window to about 26 °C which is equivalent to an air conditioning setting temperature of 26 °C set during the experiment. This work includes experimental and modelling studies conducted on cooling systems integrated with TEC. The main target of this study is to develop a dynamic model of a cooling system integrated with TEC. The black box modelling approach in producing a mathematical model was selected based on the ARX model that corresponds to the actual dynamic state of the cooling system. The best model was finalized based on the best match on curve patterns when comparing the real and estimated models using the system identification tools in MATLAB, and also had the least error. The accuracy of the models was compared and analysed. The results showed that the 4th order of the ARX model produced a higher best fitting and standard deviation values of 78.14% and 0.030769. This system accuracy is almost within the acceptable range for most error calculations in the validation method. In addition, the ARX model is found incapable of achieving the highest fitting due to the losses from the dynamic environment and losses from the TEC itself. Still, the use of this black box model used in this study is a significant variation where system parameters can be identified even offline. -
PublicationTemperature control using fuzzy controller for variable speed vapor compression refrigerator system( 2022-01-01)
;Siti Qurrata Ain ; ; ;Aziz A.A. ;Keeping the cold chain vaccine is crucial to a stable immunisation programme; however, faulty processes may occur more frequently than are often thought in developing nations. This paper discusses the quick and accurate control process for designing fuzzy controllers for variable speed vapor compression refrigerator system. The suggested controller is based on the fuzzy logic intended to improve performance while keeping the cooler’s constant internal temperature and increasing the refrigerator efficiency. Despite the external changes such as the outside temperature change or the volume change in the refrigerator vaccine, the fuzzy logic controller is utilised to maintain the interior temperature. However, a variable speed compressor (VSC) must be used to control the thermophysical characteristics, which dramatically alter the temperature with a small pressure change. In this case, fuzzy rules of the sort developed by Mamdani are used to build up the system. The programming platforms utilised to implement the model include MATLAB, SIMULINK, and Fuzzy Logic Toolbox (FLT). The efficiency of fuzzy logic controller design membership will be compared to ensure that the refrigerator temperature is more accurate and until it achieves the best performance, maintains a temperature of 5°C, and adapts to its surroundings. From the research done, the membership 2 with load shows the near accurate temperature of 5°C with steady-state error ±1.97°C. -
PublicationAutomatic Counting of Palm Oil Tree Using Satellite Aerial Imagery( 2021-01-01)
; ;Izzat M.A.Palm oil is an important economic crop in Malaysia and other tropical areas. The amount of palm oil in a plantation area is critical to forecast the yield of palm oil, to track and improve the productivity of palm-trees. The conventional manual counting approach is an unreliable result. So many processes are needed to pass and to document the outcome take a lot of time. In specific agricultural areas, palm tree counting is a crucial problem. A satellite (Google Earth Pro) has been used to gather data. The technique for the processing of images is identified and will detect and segment palm tree counts. Palm oil can be properly detected by counting palm oil based on this method in this study area. The image is processed in various techniques such as Gaussian filtering, sectional division and the unwanted object is removed. This enables a realistic, viable and effective image processing technique to calculate the average palm tree number with 94%.1 -
PublicationAutomatic People Counting System Using Aerial Image Captured by Drone for Event Management( 2021-01-01)
; ; ;Rajasalavam V.R.Event management refers to the ability to apply project management skills in order to initiate large scale social or business events. Hence, it requires the use of organizational as well as business management skills to envision, plan, and finally execute any such event. Therefore, to count or estimate the number of people who attend such events is one of important tool in event management. In common, counting number of people in events can be done by counting manually traditional headcount system. Nevertheless, this process or technique consumes much time and is also a difficult task to execute for a considerable number of people or a bigger crowd. Therefore, a modern counting system like automatic people counting system is developed to enhance the process of counting people. Thus, various method of counting has been proposed in the past decades. Consequently, automatic counting people using digital image processing technique is introduced to overcome this problem. Thus, to monitor or to count the number of people can be done by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drones. The use of drones can take a broader picture, saving time and becoming more efficient. For this research, the DJI Mavic Pro Drone is used to scout the areas. This paper is focusing on counting the number of people images. Thus, the images are firstly compared between RGB and HSV colour model. Then, the HSV colour model has been chosen for the thresholding process. Here, the images are compared between Otsu thresholding and manual thresholding. Both thresholding method gives a good segmentation result, but Otsu’s method is chosen because of its higher accuracy. Moreover, noise removal technique is employed in order to get good smoothing performance and produce better counting results. This paper is fully developed with MATLAB R2013a software. This technique has proven to be a good image processing technique with total accuracy of 91%. The hardware system is also developed to transmit the counting results.1 -

PublicationDesign Three Phase Inverter for Compressor Drive using Single-Phase AC Source( 2021-01-01)
;Faudzi M.A.F.M. ; ;Mohd Z. ;Aziz A.A. ; ; ;Alkhayyat A.Abdulsattar A.M.Inverters are commonly used in high power applications for induction motors, air conditioners, and ventilation fans. The use of an inverter can save electricity consumption and maximize consumption on the compressor. The compressor runs slowly at night, when there is little or no activity with the refrigerator. It uses just the correct amount of energy to keep the refrigerator at the right temperature. This is where the energy efficiency comes into play, and it may save you anywhere from 20% to 30% on your electric bill. The purpose of this project is to design a three-phase inverter for use on refrigerator compressors. The focus of this project is to generate and analyze the performance of a three-phase AC voltage that will be connected to the refrigerator compressor to produce a maximum voltage of 220 V that gets the current supply from the socket. In this project, a three-phase inverter is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. At the end of the project, a three-phase inverter successfully produced three-phase voltage and run for load.1 19 -
PublicationCharacteristic Study of Supercapacitor's Discharging Process Base on BLDC Motor( 2023-01-01)
; ; ; ; ; ;Al-Dolaimy F.Alkhayyat A.Energy storage has become a key issue for achieving goals connected with increasing the efficiency of both producers and users. In particular, supercapacitors currently seem to be interesting devices for many applications because they can supply high power for a significant amount of time and can be recharged more quickly than electrochemical batteries. Supercapacitors, as similar to conventional capacitors build on two plates separated by a dielectric and an electrolyte, can store more energy than conventional capacitors because they can produce two distinct layers of separated charges between plates, which are typically made of porous, carbon-based materials. The supercapacitors module serves as the power supply for the discharging process as called Energy Storages (ES). The main purpose of this research is to investigate the behaviour and properties of discharged supercapacitors. The design is created using Simulink and includes a circuit schematic and scope label. Using Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDCM) as a load, study proposed steady state condition and dynamic state condition of BLDCM operation are investigated. With comparison to battery, preliminary finding state that value of SoC and voltage of battery higher but value of current less than supercapacitor in a certain amount of time.34 1 -
PublicationThe Effect of Infrared Drying on Orthosiphon Stamineus Leaves Quality( 2021-01-01)
;Palanisamy V.V. ; ; ;Ismail K.A. ; ;Sulong M.M.S. ;Alkhayyat A. ;Salah O.R.The dryer system is an important part of the drying of food and herbs, among other things. As a result, a special dryer is needed to keep the food or herbs fresh for as long as possible without killing the good nutrients. In this project, Orthosiphon stamineus herb will be used to dry using an Infrared dryer. Infrared drying involves transferring heat by radiation from a hot source to a lower-temperature substance that has to be heated or dried. The temperature of the heated element determines the peak wavelength of the radiation. The purpose of this project is to design an infrared dryer system and analyze the quality of the dried herb. The Orthosiphon Stamineus have been dried using a 200W Infrared dryer system at 60°C for 2hours. Total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity assay and evaluated using a UV/VIS Spectrophotometer, respectively. A moisture analyzer was used to look at the changes in moisture content, and a colorimeter was used to look at the colour changes. The result showed that drying O.stamineus under 60°C has significantly affected the herbal leaves quality in terms of moisture content, colour properties, Antioxidant capacity, and Total phenolic content.25 1 -
PublicationSelective Harmonic Elimination of Five Level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter Using the Newton-Raphson Technique( 2021-07-26)
; ;Kasdi N.S. ; ;Mashagba H.A. ; ;Sulong Syahmi M.M.Multilevel inverter becomes an alternative for high power and medium voltage applications recently and is more popular in renewable energy. The cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter is more suitable for the Photovoltaic application because it acts as a separate DC source for each bridge. This paper presents a selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation for single-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) five level inverter. The optimum angle of the transcendental equations is solved the fundamental and harmonic elements using the Newton-Raphson (NR) process. The proposed selective harmonic elimination (SHE) scheme is tested using MATLAB/Simulink simulation. These simulation results are then verified through experiment using microcontroller. The proposed SHE is efficient in eliminating the 5th order harmonics and producing a higher quality output waveform with a better harmonic profile.2 23
