PublicationA multilayered acoustic signal generator for low power energy harvesting( 2017-10-10)
;Awal M.R. ; ; ; ; ;Kamarudin M.R.This paper presents the design and analysis of a multilayer cantilever to harvest vibration energy by generating acoustic signal. To do so, a five layer configuration is used to design the cantilever. Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT-8), Stainless Steel 405 Annealed, Aluminum and Zinc Oxide are used to develop the layers. Water is used as the medium to analyze the sound propagation pattern. Sound Pressure Level, displacements and electric potential of the cantilever are analyzed along with other parameters. From the results, it is evident that, the proposed cantilever can propagate sound within a range of 78.7 dB to 73.4 dB in a 50 mm spherical distance. -
PublicationA Comprehensive Review of Midrange Wireless Power Transfer Using Dielectric Resonators( 2021-01-01)
; ; ;Faiz Wan Ali W.F. ; ;Kamarudin M.R. ; ; ; ; ;Nurulazlina RamliMagnetic resonant coupling (MRC) is one of the techniques that are widely used in wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. The technique is commonly used for enhancing distance while maintaining power transfer efficiency (PTE). Many studies have investigated new technologies to extend the distance of MRC while maintaining high PTE values. The most promising technique to date in MRC is the addition of a resonator between the transmitter and the receiver coil. The implementation of the resonator varies based on different designs, sizes, and material types, although the outcomes remain unsatisfactory. By introducing dielectric material resonators, PTE can be improved by lowering the ohmic loss which becomes a problem on conventional resonators. This study presents a general overview on the use of dielectric material as a resonator in MRC WPT technology and its technological development. The basic operation of MRC WPT is summarized with up-to-date technical improvements related to dielectric material as a resonator in the field of WPT. An overview of the current limitations and challenges of this technique is also highlighted in this study.1 -
PublicationInvestigation on Wearable Antenna under Different Bending Conditions for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) Applications( 2021-01-01)
; ;Kamarudin M.R. ;Rambe A.H. ;Haris N. ; ; ; ;This paper analysed the effects of bending on the performance of a textile antenna wherein the antenna under test was made of felt substrate for both industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band and WBAN applications at 2.45 GHz. Moreover, the conductive material was used for the patch, and the ground plane used a 0.17 mm Shieldit textile. Meanwhile, the antenna structure was in the form of rectangular, with a line patch in between elements to abate the mutual coupling effect. The measured operating frequency range of the antenna spanned from 2.33 GHz to 2.5 GHz with a gain of 4.7 dBi at 2.45 GHz. In this paper, the antenna robustness was examined by bending the structure on different radii and degrees along both X- and Y-axis. Next, the effects on return loss, bandwidth, isolation, and radiation characteristics were analysed. This paper also discovered that the antenna's performance remained acceptable as it was deformed, and the measured results agreed well with the simulation.3 25 -
PublicationAnalysis reconfigurable frequency textile antenna in bending condition( 2017-01-01)
; ; ; ; ;Kamarudin M.R. ;Herwansyah LagoIn this paper, the analysis of reconfigurable frequency textile antenna in bending conditions is presented. The antenna consists of a truncated rectangular patch and slotted ground plane made by ShieldIt Super. Felt fabric is used as an antenna substrate. The proposed antenna is capable to reconfigure at seven different states frequencies by using three PIN diodes. The Circular Polarization (CP) is achieved at the GPS operating frequency. Meanwhile, the proposed antenna operates as a Linear Polarization (LP) at high operating frequencies. The performances of antenna in bending conditions is analyze since the textile antenna usually attached on the body will easily bend due to the human body structures. Details of the simulation results for antenna in bending condition are discussed.1 32 -
PublicationMulti-Mode Yagi Uda Patch Array Antenna With Non-Linear Inter-Parasitic Element Spacing( 2023-01-01)
;Isa S.R. ; ; ;Kamarudin M.R. ;Alomainy A.A low-profile and broad steerable patch array antenna is presented. The improvement of the multi-directional functions from the broadside is very limited for the patch array antenna. In this work, the number of directional beams is enhanced by 40% using a novel approach, inter-parasitic element expansion technique and adopted only four PIN diode switches. Results in simulation and measurement have verified that the patch parasitic array antenna is capable -of generating seven beam patterns directed towards -52°, -30°, -10°, 0°, +10°, +30°, and +52° at the xz-plane. Applying the inter-parasitic element spacing's optimization and minimizing the switching circuitry using four RF PIN diodes on the parasitic elements have contributed to the gain achievement of more than 7 dBi.56 1 -
PublicationA dual band antenna design for future millimeter wave wireless communication at 24.25 GHz and 38 GHz( 2017-10-10)
;Daud N.N. ; ; ; ;Sapabathy T. ;Mohd Nizam Osman ;Yassin M.N.M.Kamarudin M.R.This paper proposes a dual band antenna for future millimeter wave wireless communication. The performance of this dual band antenna is analyzed in term of reflection coefficient when some of the length of the patch antenna was adjustable, overall gain and total efficiency for both frequencies respectively. The size of this presented patch antenna is 4.9 × 7.6 mm2. The dual band antenna was fabricated on a RTRogers5880 with a dielectric constant of £=2.2 and thickness of the substrate is 0.127 mm. The simulated result obtained the reflection coefficient as a requirement of the antenna which is not less than -10 dB for 24.25 GHz and 38 GHz that capable to cover 5G applications. The proposed antenna has achieved a maximum gain up to 5.5 dBi and 4.5 dBi at desired frequencies respectively. All design and simulation are carried out using CST Microwave Studio software. The proposed antenna design could be suitable to be applied as a device to the 5G wireless system.48 1 -
PublicationA Fuzzy-Based Angle-of-Arrival Estimation System (AES) Using Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable (RPR) Antenna and Modified Gaussian Membership Function( 2019-01-01)
;Jais M.I. ; ; ; ;Jamaluddin M.H. ;Kamarudin M.R. ;Ehkan P. ;Murukesan Loganathan L.Soh P.J.Angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimation is an important factor in various wireless sensing applications, especially localization systems. This paper proposes a new type of AOA estimation sensor node, known as AOA-estimation system (AES) where the received signal strength indication (RSSI) from multiple radiation pattern reconfigurable (RPR) antennas are used to calculate the AOA. In the proposed framework, three sets of RPR antennas have been used to provide a coverage of 15 regions of radiation patterns at different angles. The salient feature of this RPR-based AOA estimation is the use of Fuzzy Inferences System (FIS) to further enhance the number of estimation points. The introduction of a modified FIS membership function (MF) based on Gaussian function resulted in an improved 85% FIS aggregation percentage between the fuzzy input and output. This later resulted in a low AOA error (of less than 5%) and root-mean-square error (of less than 8°).46 1 -
PublicationNegative Index Metamaterial-Based Frequency-Reconfigurable Textile CPW Antenna for Microwave Imaging of Breast Cancer( 2022-02-01)
;Hossain K. ; ; ;Lee S.H. ;Rahman K.S.A.Kamarudin M.R.In this paper, we report the design and development of a metamaterial (MTM)-based directional coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed reconfigurable textile antenna using radiofrequency (RF) varactor diodes for microwave breast imaging. Both simulation and measurement results of the proposed MTM-based CPW-fed reconfigurable textile antenna revealed a continuous frequency re-configuration to a distinct frequency band between 2.42 GHz and 3.2 GHz with a frequency ratio of 2.33:1, and with a static bandwidth at 4–15 GHz. The results also indicated that directional radiation pattern could be produced at the frequency reconfigurable region and the antenna had a peak gain of 7.56 dBi with an average efficiency of more than 67%. The MTM-based reconfigurable antenna was also tested under the deformed condition and analysed in the vicinity of the breast phantom. This microwave imaging system was used to perform simulation and measurement experiments on a custom-fabricated realistic breast phantom with heterogeneous tissue composition with image reconstruction using delay-and-sum (DAS) and delay-multiply-and-sum (DMAS) algorithms. Given that the MWI system was capable of detecting a cancer as small as 10 mm in the breast phan-tom, we propose that this technique may be used clinically for the detection of breast cancer.76 1 -
PublicationAnalysis of Aperture Coupled Circular Patch Antenna for Mid-Band 5G( 2021-01-01)
;Isa S.R. ; ; ;Kamarudin M.R. ; ;Bakar H.A. ;Tariqul Islam M.Alaydrus M.This paper presents the design analysis of a compact circular patch antenna. The proposed antennas are excited through an aperture coupled feeding technique. The design of the antenna has been implemented using CST software. The analysis is done based on the antenna simulation output parameter. The reflection coefficient, gain, and radiation pattern is discussed in this work. At resonance frequency of 3.5 GHz, the circular patch aperture coupled fed antenna is managed to get the high gain, good bandwidth, and minimum reflection coefficient (S11). The proposed antenna has high gain of 8.01 dBi and a sufficient bandwidth requirement for mid-band 5G applications.1 9 -
PublicationBeam Steering Investigation on Multiple Antenna System using Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable Array( 2021-01-01)
;Bharath J. ; ; ; ;Kamarudin M.R.Soh P.J.In this research, a radiation pattern reconfigurable (RPR) based multiple antenna was designed using a compact combination of a driven element and parasitic elements that operates at 3.5 GHz. The proposed antenna has the ability to change the radiation behavior to serve the user with better performance. The radiation characteristic of the antenna, especially the tilt angle could be reconfigured with the use of RF switches. The multiple antenna was designed on 94.4 mm x 110 mm Rogers substrate. First, an RPR antenna that uses parasitic patch array antenna was designed as a single element. Then this RPR was deployed as 2 x 1 RPR MIMO antenna using two types of configurations. Finally, the analysis showed that the multiple antenna arrangement using configuration II provides better results in terms of steering angle and gain.1 14
