PublicationExperimental study on laser welding dissimilar materials( 2021-07-21)
;Yap How HeanLaser welding on dissimilar materials is widely used and has significance application in industry. Laser welding is the one of the method which can offer high strength of joint especially for joining of dissimilar metals contrast to conventional method. Conventional welding more often had an insufficient penetration depth and a wider heat affected zone which prompts to reduce joint quality. This work exhibits a weld possibility on low carbon steel and high carbon steel surface utilizing low power fiber laser in pulse wave modes. The objective of this research work is to investigate the influence of laser welding parameters of welding speed and pulse width on weld geometry of the welded metal. The parameters used is the welding speed (1.67 mm/s to 8.33mm/s) and pulse width (3 ms to 5 ms). The optimum weld geometry was with the largest aspect ratio (1.42) with parameter of welding speed (1.67 mm/s) and pulse width (3.0 ms). As conclusion, appropriate utilization of parameters can improve the quality of weld joints and durability of products.2 -

The existing design of sugarcane extractor consists of two rollers with the pulley system connected by V-belts. The power generated by the motor will be transmitted from the wheel to the gears and finally the rotating shaft. The rollers will tear then press the sugarcane to extract the juices. The need for the mechanism analysis is necessary to obtain information on existing design for future development of a new version of extractor machine. This is due to currently available sugarcane juice extractors requiring high energy to power bulk and heavy roller mills that are mechanically driven. The analysis is focused on gears, belt and roller as well as the weakness, advantages and disadvantages of the existing extractor.1 -

;Yee N.K.The most fire-related fatalities are due to the smoke inhalation of the toxic gases. It is related to the victims being trapped in the building when the building was on fire. It was also reported that major deaths from fire related are from the toxic gases inhalation produced by the fire while the deaths due to fire flames and burning was about one third of the total deaths. The access to the exit door was blocked and they could not exit through the window due to the permanent grille installation. It was well aware that most Malaysian homeowners installed grilles on their house windows or doors for security reason since there are lots of break-ins incidences. To overcome the issue, this work introduces a window grille with keyless locking system. The design incorporated keyless system that can be operated or opened without a key. Several designs for implementing this solution have been described. These designs are divided into three sections, which is a grille design, expansion designs which use to accommodate a wide range of window-sized and keyless locking systems. The size and type of grille suitable for Malaysian residents as well as the more efficient keyless locking system has been studied in detail using the method of case study and survey method. Step of patent research, market analysis and benchmarking are used as methods for collecting reference data. The most effective fire escape window grille keyless locking system has been studied and designed from this project. An important factor in designing a fire window grille is the design that can be opened and does not require a key operation. The results of the design and analysis tested are presented such that they can be used as an aid to the design of fire escape features. -
PublicationPrinting parameter optimization of stent length accuracy by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM)( 2021-05-03)
;Amirul Asyraf AzliVictor S.A.The demand for coronary artery stents keeps rising every year with a higher quality, lower cost, faster and economical process. Due to its availability relatively low-cost price and adaptability, Polylactic-acid (PLA) has been identified as an ideal material for biodegradable stents. Previously, laser micromachining was widely used for processing coronary stent but this manufacturing process required high investment. Apart from that, this process was unpractical and unfeasible to be machined with certain material and complex design. Alternatively, FDM 3D printing emerges as a system for producing stent and gained attention for its low cost, high reliability, simple operation, flexibility and has shown potential as promising solutions in stents fabrication. Stent length is one of the key aspects in stents manufacturing. In this work, optical microscope is used to measure the stent characterizations while processing parameter optimization was performed by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Printing orientation affects the stent length dimensional accuracy. Both XY and ZX are capable to develop PLA stents but XY-orientation is the ideal printing orientation as it provides good dimensional precision for stent characterizations and a lower risk for the structure and geometry to be sagging.4 -

As more patients who are overweight are admitted to hospitals, critical care nursing care become more important. In order to design new type of wheelchair for big size patient, customer's needs requirements are very important in early development process. It firmly identified with idea age, idea choice, aggressive benchmarking and foundation of item determinations. The data obtained from this survey is very useful for designer in designing of new type wheelchair for big size patient, which currently not available or very difficult to find in the market.1 -

This led to the study of light and strong alloys or composites. This study focuses to produce current novel aluminium composite with an appreciable density, good machinable characteristics, less corrosive, high strength, light weight and low manufacturing cost product. In this research, an aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMC) (Al-0.5Si-0.5Mg-2.5Cu-15SiC) was developed using the metallurgical powdered method and subjected to the investigation of erosion wear characteristics. Here the solid particle erosion test was conducted on AMMC samples. The article presents, the design of Taguchi experiments and statistical techniques of erosion wear characteristics and the behaviors of the composite. The rate of erosion wear found to decrease with increasing impact angle, regardless of the rate of impact. With higher impact velocity erosion rate increases but decreases with stand of distance.2 9
