; ;Othman M. ; ; ;Guerrero J.M.Port is a focal point especially in the trade sector, where it is represented as hub for the import and export from one destination to another. Despite the fact that it gives positive impact to country specifically in economic sector but from the health sector, this activity leaves a negative impact on the environment and human health, especially those living near the port. Now, most of developed countries have made improvements by converting conventional engines (diesel engines) to electrical engines for major vehicles in ports. The same goes for shore-side ports, most of them using cold ironing (CI). However, all the modification is still raw and faced several challenges, especially in technical aspects such as voltage difference, frequency, supply / demand. It occurs due to the difference in standard voltage and frequency between shore-side and ship. Most of the ocean ship used 60 Hz. In addition, the main constraint faced is that the power supplied on the shore-side is not enough to meet the demand from customers. Thus, to make additions to the existing substation, it will require high initial costs. After evaluating the pros and cons, the new approach is taken to integrate this system into microgrid technology. Microgrid technology is a local cluster energy source with a control capability comprising Energy Distribution Resources (DER), which cover management request, storage, and loads. One of the advantages of a microgrid is that they can be connected or disconnected from the grid to operate autonomously.28 7 -
PublicationImplementation of Two-Stage Multilevel Inverter System using PIC Controller(Penerbit Akademia Baru, 2022-10-01)
; ; ; ; ; ;In this study, the Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter (CMLI) is described for use with infrared dryer loads. Because of the low harmonic distortion content and reduced voltage stress in the switching devices, CMLI is one of particular interest. The CMLI topology and the Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulsed Width Modulation (SHEPWM) technology were studied and evaluated. To evaluate the inverter, SHEPWM modulation was studied and applied. The system also includes a DC-DC converter. The converter was designed to be used in infrared drying system powered by direct current (DC) power where an increased output voltage is required. This study also presented an evaluation of performance using infrared load of the CMLI based on power used at 100 W. As a result, a comparison of input power was made, and an assessment into the converter's power quality in terms of harmonic content and overall efficiency was conducted. The implementation of the system by hardware had been able to reduce the harmonic to 15.5%.5 35 -

A Rogowski coil is a toroid of wire used to measure an alternating current through a cable encircled by the toroid. The aim of this study is to design and develop planar Rogowski as a sensor for current measurement and detection using printed circuit board (PCB). The problem of this project is Rogowski Coil (RC) current sensor has same principle as Current Transformer, but the design is different, especially the RC is developed in PCB. Before starting in development of Rogowski Coil current sensor, a few studies are required to review past research on related topic to develop this project. The winding of Rogowski coil current sensor is design by using design software which is EasyEDA to achieve very good sensitivity for wide bandwidth range of frequency at the lowest cost. Finally, the prototype developed is experimented to get the result. The experimental results are discussed and evaluated regarding the performance of the prototype. The highest induced voltage that detected is 55.3 mV and the lowest induced voltage is 11.1mV. The design of Rogowski sensor is significantly shown the best performance of the current sensor in term of sensitivity and bandwidth.4 28 -

;Azizan N.S. ;Azizan M.M. ; ; ; ;Starting of a medium or large induction motors generate such a large current during direct-on-line (DOL) starting process to the point that it can drop the voltage of power supply. The induction motor can be broken, its characteristics can be changed, and performances of the motor can be worsened. A significant higher starting current than the rated current can generate mechanical and thermal stress on the motor and the loads. High-voltage fluctuations, dips and sags can arise in electrical power systems associated with the motor. To overcome this problem, various starters were designed. There are several types of starters in which can be divided into conventional starters and power electronic drives. Conventional starters are such as direct-online, star-delta and autotransformer whereas the example for power electronics are matrix converter, frequency inverter and soft starter. In this paper, the design of autotransformer and soft starter are focused in order to compare inrush current during the start-up three phase medium sized industrial induction motor by using MATLAB/Simulink software. Both starters were targeted to resolve the problems inherent in the dynamic operation of induction motors, which included current and torque surges during the motor start up. The autotransformer gives the choice to consumer in selecting different tap values, in which is the advantage to consumer to vary their starting current and starting torque according to its application. On the other hand, the three-phase soft starter employs two anti-parallel connected switches in each phase. Thyristors act as the switches due to their higher power rating and high efficiency. Then, both methods will be compared to prove the best performance in mitigate high inrush current. The best of the two is likely to be the answer for mitigating the issue of high inrush starting current for a medium size motor at industries.32 1 -
PublicationSolar Powered Multiple Output Buck ConverterTimes have certainly changed over the past few decades, now it seems that technology is getting more compact and efficient. The modern outdoor enthusiast such as hikers, climbers has a problem regarding the lack of power supply to power up electronics when they go for adventure activities. In order to solve this problem, this paper design and develop DC/DC buck converter system to drop down the voltage from the solar photovoltaic (PV) system from 12VDC into 5VDC. This paper is first to start up with design and simulation circuit using simulation to test outcome of this paper in the range of 5VDC & 1.0A and 5VDC & 0.5A. A battery storage is needed to feed electricity independent and battery management of the battery is needed to improve the performance of battery life. This can be done by adding a charge controller unit. The outcome of this paper allows the battery to be charged using the solar panel and at the same time can produce multiple outputs for low voltages used. The software simulation has been done to shows this system produces two different output and the hardware will be developed based on the software results. Software and hardware result, both will be compared and analysed.
