PublicationOptimization of heating rate on hybrid microwave sintering of the PM Fe-Cr MMCs reinforced with Al2O3particleThis study reports the optimization of heating rate on the microwave sintered Fe-Cr-Al2O3 metal matrix composite (MMC). The heating rate was selected between 10°C/min to 60°C/min with increment of 10°C/min respectively. The samples were fabricated via PM route and microwave sintering was carried out in a tubular microwave furnace HAMiLab-V3 in N2 atmosphere purposely to avoid any oxidation and chemical reaction to samples. The microstructure of sintered samples was evaluated using SEM and bulk density and porosity were determined based on ASTM B962 - 17 and the microhardness were determined based on ASTM E384. The optimized heating rate of the sample was selected based on the micro hardness value and total porosity percentage as well as based on SEM microstructure analysis. The results revealed that the optimum heating rate occurred at 20°C/min due to the highest value of hardness achieved which is about 119.28 HV with at the highest bulk density about 6.07 g/cm3 and at the lowest total porosity about 14.55%. SEM micrographs also showed that the diffusion was mostly effective at 20°C/min heating rate compared to others, indicated that significant grain boundary diffusion of Fe matrix into Al2O3 particle was occurred.

PublicationHard-porous-lightweight PM Fe-Cr-Al2O3MMCs sintered under hybrid microwave energyThis study reports on the effect of Al2O3 particles on the density of Fe-Cr metal matrix composite (MMCs) produced through PM route then sintered under hybrid microwave energy. The sample was prepared by mixing the Al2O3 particle in 3D-tubular shaker at six different weight percentage of Fe-Cr matrix started from 5 wt.% to 30 wt.% with 5% in increment. The sintering process was performed under controlled N2 atmosphere in a tubular microwave furnace. Determination of bulk density and porosity was done according to Standard Test Method ASTM B962 - 17, while ASTM E384 was used to determine the microhardness. Assessment of the sample was based on density, porosity, hardness and microstructure evaluation. The result show that incorporating the Al2O3 particle were significantly increase the microhardness, decrease the bulk density and increase the porosity of the in Fe-Cr composite.

PublicationDFMA method: Analysis on a mechanical sharpener( 2021-07-21)
; ; ; ; ;Shafeeq Ahmad Shamim AhmadCreativity and innovation in any organization are vital to its successful performance. Innovate a product have to consists of many different process of design. The flow of design such as identifying the problem of the product, determining the objective of the research, identifying the customer needs, undergoing survey and analysis data to get the list of metrics. Besides that, house of quality and concept generation will help the research to get know whether the design is full fill the customer needs or not. Concept testing will help to identify the final concept selection. Modelling of the final concept can help to show the target marketing to give their own response on this research. Customer needs can help to make the product undergo further improvement.5 39 -
PublicationDesign and development of fire escape window grille keyless locking system( 2021-07-21)
; ;Ng Kuan Yee ; ; ;The most fire-related fatalities are due to the smoke inhalation of the toxic gases. It is related to the victims being trapped in the building when the building was on fire. It was also reported that major deaths from fire related are from the toxic gases inhalation produced by the fire while the deaths due to fire flames and burning was about one third of the total deaths. The access to the exit door was blocked and they could not exit through the window due to the permanent grille installation. It was well aware that most Malaysian homeowners installed grilles on their house windows or doors for security reason since there are lots of break-ins incidences. To overcome the issue, this work introduces a window grille with keyless locking system. The design incorporated keyless system that can be operated or opened without a key. Several designs for implementing this solution have been described. These designs are divided into three sections, which is a grille design, expansion designs which use to accommodate a wide range of window-sized and keyless locking systems. The size and type of grille suitable for Malaysian residents as well as the more efficient keyless locking system has been studied in detail using the method of case study and survey method. Step of patent research, market analysis and benchmarking are used as methods for collecting reference data. The most effective fire escape window grille keyless locking system has been studied and designed from this project. An important factor in designing a fire window grille is the design that can be opened and does not require a key operation. The results of the design and analysis tested are presented such that they can be used as an aid to the design of fire escape features.3 3 -

PublicationExperimental study on laser welding dissimilar materials( 2021-07-21)
; ;Yap How Hean ; ; ;Laser welding on dissimilar materials is widely used and has significance application in industry. Laser welding is the one of the method which can offer high strength of joint especially for joining of dissimilar metals contrast to conventional method. Conventional welding more often had an insufficient penetration depth and a wider heat affected zone which prompts to reduce joint quality. This work exhibits a weld possibility on low carbon steel and high carbon steel surface utilizing low power fiber laser in pulse wave modes. The objective of this research work is to investigate the influence of laser welding parameters of welding speed and pulse width on weld geometry of the welded metal. The parameters used is the welding speed (1.67 mm/s to 8.33mm/s) and pulse width (3 ms to 5 ms). The optimum weld geometry was with the largest aspect ratio (1.42) with parameter of welding speed (1.67 mm/s) and pulse width (3.0 ms). As conclusion, appropriate utilization of parameters can improve the quality of weld joints and durability of products.2 33 -
PublicationErgonomic study of X-L wheelchairWheelchairs have been used widely as the one of the vehicles that are designated purposely to help the disabled patient to easily move around. However, the standard wheelchairs currently available in the market are mostly fit to patients which have average size and can only accommodate the patient with maximum body mass up to 100kg. When a big size or extra-large (XL) patient with body mass more than 100 kg uses this standard wheelchair, they may feel discomfort, cramped as well as restricted movement. Furthermore, the structure of standard wheelchairs may not be safe enough to hold the load of big size patient weight. Therefore, this project is focused to study the appropriate an ergonomic body sizes and dimensions of big patients that body mass ranging from minimum 100kg to maximum 150kg. The investigation is focused on the customer needs as well as anthropometry body measurements. The data was collected from the questionnaires and direct interview among 30 personnel with the body mass in target range. The information gathered then had been used to custom design the XL wheelchair that fulfil the most requirements and having sturdy structure that safety to be used.

PublicationRedesign of drone remote control using design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) method( 2019-07-30)
;Xin T.J. ; ; ;"The redesign of drone remote control using DFMA method" is a case study to analyze and redesigned the controller product through its assembly process in term of manual handling time, manual insertion time, total assembly time, design efficiency of the design and manufacturing method for the design. The components and manufacturing of the drone remote control were undergone alteration with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) and redesigned methods. The main focuses of this research are to analyze the current design efficiency of drone remote control and improved the design efficiency. At the same time, the redesign was applied to existing model under the same platform. As a result, the assembly time for redesign showed an improvement of 24.93% where the assembly time was reduced from 480.56 s to 360.79 s and design efficiency was increased 1.66% from 4.99% to 6.65%. Therefore, the best design with optimal value is accomplished.21 1
