This investigation analyses spotlight components to reduce the necessary amount and explore the potential to enhance the sustainable design. The DFMA and Sustainability design considerations for manufacturing assemblies were used and incorporated in this work. DFMA outcome displays that components were reduced while the LCA showed that weight, carbon footprint, acidification of the air, water eutrophication and overall energy consumption were reduced. This new approach is essential for demonstrating the efficiency of both tools used to reduce the cost of spotlight manufacture and enhance the sustainable aspects of product design.

Design is the first step in any manufacturing process where the most crucial decisions are made which affect the product's ultimate cost. The researchers used DFMA method in this study to redesign and improve a joystick in order to achieve the goal to decrease the number of parts, handling and insertion time, and improve the design efficiency for a joystick. The main emphasis in this research has been on the design stage of a product development, with a view to accomplishing an optimal design approach for current product.DFMA principles have been used to develop new design ideas and the final design will be evaluate and compared to the current design. In result, the assembly time for redesign then increased by 21 % with a decrease in the assembly time from 294.2s to 232.44s and an improvement in design efficiency by 26.5 % from 20.4 % to 25.8 %.

This paper presents an analysis of the mechanism of Belt-Pulley Driven Spray Plunger Pump. Belts and pulleys are used to transfer kinetic energy from the internal combustion (IC) engine to operate the pump. Combination of pulley and belts was used to transfer motion between each other simply without the need for meshed toothed gearing. The principal remains the same that there is a driver (powered) and driven (free). The benefit from application of belts which are mostly made of synthetic fibres is that no lubrication is necessary compared to chains. The analysis is focused on power transmitted from IC engine to plunger pump (design power) considering service factor as well as determining total number of belts to be used in the system with refer to FENNER Friction Belt Range Brochure Technical Docs.

A cordless screwdriver is a type of power tools available in the market, purposely used for fastening and drilling task powered by a rechargeable battery. In the design process, the designer is required to identify the possible changes of some issues found on the cordless screwdriver development emphasising cost, number of parts, materials, manufacturing process and the life cycle of this product. Thus, this research work towards focusing on the analysis of Cordless Screwdriver to minimise the components and to improve the design sustainably. Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) was utilised in this study. Analysis has shown how the number of components has been reduced to 15 per cent after the DFMA application. While the LCA has demonstrated a reduction of weight to 12%, air acidification is 8% and total energy 13%, carbon footprint 6% and water eutrophication is 6%. This new approach is important to demonstrate the efficiency of both to reduce the costs of producing a Cordless Screwdriver.

Analysis a harvesting mechanism of swiftlets nest using finite element analysis
For this project, it is focused on the harvesting swiftlets nest process to design and analysis new mechanism of harvest equipment. Industry swiftlets nest is not a new industry in Malaysia. It gets very high demand from China. Harvesting swiftlets nest is one of the processes to produce any products that made from swiftlets nest. Currently, they are using manual harvesting equipment to harvest swiftlets nest without using any auxiliary equipment. It is the first step in process flow and very important role before cleaning process. The objectives of this project are to design mechanism harvesting equipment to harvest swiftlets nest and to decrease the time of harvesting swiftlets nest process in a swiftlets house in a day. The design of harvesting equipment is using CAD software and then transfer to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyses the capabilities of part design. At the end of this project, this research will give understanding about design using CAD software and do analysis that improved the harvesting equipment.

This paper investigates and analysing the reduction of the total number of car phone holder components and its possibilities towards the design sustainability. The analysis setup is used Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for the purposes mentioned above. It was found that the total number of components was reduced by 67.9% using DFMA. Sustainability analysis proves that the redesign of the car phone holder was able to reduce the environmental impact throughout the overall design. The FEA analysis also revealed that the redesigned product could be support by the different weight of the phone load. This approach is essential to the designer and design engineer to identify product sustainability at the initial phase of the design process, especially during conceptual design for a better product.

This paper presents an analysis of the mechanism of gears and belt system of Small Sugarcane Juice Extractor machines. The existing design of sugarcane extractor consists of two rollers with the pulley system connected by V-belts. The power generated by the motor will be transmitted from the wheel to the gears and finally the rotating shaft. The rollers will tear then press the sugarcane to extract the juices. The need for the mechanism analysis is necessary to obtain information on existing design for future development of a new version of extractor machine. This is due to currently available sugarcane juice extractors requiring high energy to power bulk and heavy roller mills that are mechanically driven. The analysis is focused on gears, belt and roller as well as the weakness, advantages and disadvantages of the existing extractor.

For this project, analysis of the redesign of original product hair dryer, the project is focused on the Hair dryers design, size, color, material and cost. Hair dryer are electromechanical device designed to dry the hair. This project is not only intended to analyze its body, but is also recognized as the part, element and component with a systematic function to analyze in detail the innovation method of product system design, which is taken as its concept to carry out the analysis on the component elements of hairdryers and the overall analysis and review of the system design process of hair dryers. Most people are familiar with the daily routine of washing, drying, and styling their hair. Although hair will eventually dry on its own if given enough time, most people reach for a hair dryer to speed up the process. Hair dryer are commonly used and can cause hair damage such as roughness, dryness and loss of hair color. The design of hairdryer is using CAD software and then transfer to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyses the capabilities of part design. At the end of this project, this research will give understanding about design using CAD software and do analysis that improved the hairdryer equipment.

This project is designed and evaluated to develop the tape measurement instrument. Measuring tape is not a new thing for us. It is a high demand product in the surveyor industry. Currently, they are a lot of measuring tape designs selling in the market. This project is intended to achieve the new measuring tape design and decrease the time to assembly the product. Besides, it also learns to analyse the cost of manufacturing of the product. The CAD approach has been used to design a measuring tape and CAE, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to identify the component capabilities and strengths. This study will include an understanding of CAD software design and perform analysis that strengthens the measuring tape at the end of this project.
