E-MEDIC: A mobile application for common medicines at pharmacy

Humans' and the world's lifestyles have changed dramatically through time as a result of technological advancements. Communication technology has advanced swiftly in the contemporary age, making a significant contribution to human existence. Smartphones are one of the most useful technologies. Mobile apps arose as a result of the evolution of regular phones into smartphones. Mobile applications with various functions give varying levels of aid to human existence. This study aims to give self-medicating patients a guideline and correct content information of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Subsequently, it is to develop a mobile application for the medication (E-MEDIC app). Furthermore, it is to ease and save users' time searching for medicines content. The third objective is to evaluate the user's acceptance of the medication mobile application (E-MEDIC app). The qualitative methodologies utilised for the E-MEDIC mobile app included locating two specialists to conduct an Alpha Test to obtain their thoughts and selecting twelve respondents with relevant experience to serve as testers. The experiment includes several areas of the application's functioning, usability, and interface design. All respondents and experts agreed that the E-MEDIC mobile app's functionality, usefulness, and usability are excellent. The E-MEDIC smartphone app, which is based on this initiative, can provide accurate information and content specifics on over-the-counter (OTC) medications to self-medicating patients. If properly implemented in pharmacies, OTC medications, and public health, the E-MEDIC smartphone app offers several benefits. The results from this study are promising.

Conceptualization of co-worker support: A qualitative study among human resource practitioners

Along with rapid industrial and societal transformations, Human Resource (HR) profession is one of the professions that play a pivotal role in the organizations to keep abreast with the changes. Transformations will be accompanied by the changes in values, thus requiring HR practitioners to make constant revisions in the employment law and practices. In this challenging environment, employees are expected to assume greater responsibilities in or to adapt to the changing environment successfully. Such a challenging environment can be strenuous to employees. In order to cope in such an environment, employees often seek support from their social relationships at work. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the concept of co-worker support among HR practitioners. Based on the findings, six themes of co-worker support were identified. A clearer conceptualization of co-worker support established contributed to the body of knowledge. Practically, the conceptualization of co-worker support can be used to assess support-related issues pertaining to social relationships at work, which can help organizations undertake appropriate actions to strengthen employee relations and create a harmonious working environment.

Factors affecting gender equality among societies in Karachi, Pakistan: a mediation and moderation analyses

The goal of this study is to build to investigate the elements that influence gender equality in Karachi Societies. Karachi is one of Pakistan's largest cities, a developing country in South East Asia. When it comes to gender, the country, like many other developing countries, has a substantial inequality in resources and rights. Women in developing countries are influenced by a variety of socio-cultural practices and racial factors, including a diverse range of spiritual traditions, a complicated legal system, and complex economic and political quandaries. In this study, the non-probabilistic convenience sampling strategy was used for the reason of addressing incomplete population of the target audience during the COVID-19 lockout. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was carried out in this study with the help of smart PLS software to establish a causal link between the predictor, mediating, moderating, and criterion variables. Keeping a watch on the data, it becomes clear that the independent variables separately have a weak to moderating impact towards the variable there pertaining to be at the mediator factor are the dependent variable. The mediating variables have a relatively stronger contribution to gender equality. The beta value of each of use is 0.36, indicating a weak to moderate contribution, whereas the beta value of distinction is 0.59, indicating a moderate to higher contribution to gender equality. The average contribution value of all independent variables is greater than 0.20, with some values reaching up to 0.30, indicating a moderate to weak contribution to gender equality. Many studies have been conducted to investigate the concerns and causes related to women's challenges; however, lack of causal (explanatory) research has been conducted on the subject. Thus, this research provides fruitful knowledge to the existing literature on the mediation and moderation analyses towards gender equality among societies in Pakistan.

Effect of institutional support and entrepreneurial knowledge on women’s entrepreneurial self-efficacy and venture performance in a developing country

Women’s entrepreneurship has become an essential movement in developing economies and is accepted in all working areas. This study aims to propose the effect of institutional support (IS) and entrepreneurial knowledge (ENK) on women’s entrepreneurial self-efficacy (WESE) and venture performance (VP) in a developing country, namely, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach: The constructive theoretical framework comprises of an extensive review of current literature. In this study, the researchers used a deductive approach that used cross-sectional data collected through women entrepreneurs completing a questionnaire. Consequently, this study comprised 324 usable samples. Findings: The structural equation model reveals that formal institutional support (FIS), informal institutional support (IFIS) and ENK have a positive and significant effect on WESE that is concerned with the VP. Finally, WESE is a potent construct that mediates the association between FIS, IFIS, ENK and VP. Practical implications: This study’s findings provide policymakers and government with guidance so that, by providing entrepreneurship and technical courses to develop more entrepreneurial self-efficacy, they focus more on women’s entrepreneurship. Ultimately, this improves VP. Finally, this study’s findings would provide guidelines for allocating financial assistance or funds for women. By using these funds, they can start their businesses to tackle miserable conditions, i.e. poverty and unemployment. Originality/value: This study’s findings help to support the creation of self-employment opportunities and starting a business to improve well-being and socioeconomic conditions.

Employee performance in the perspectives of training, reward and motivation: Evidences from the Malaysian manufacturing company

The purpose of this study is to examine several effects of predictors (eg. training, reward, motivation) on employee performance in the manufacturing sector. Organization needs to put more concerns about employee performance to ensure they could retain their performance because this can contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the country. To provide some empirical evidences on the performance among the manufacturing employees this study has been conducted in one company located in the Northern Region of Peninsular Malaysia. A number of 355 respondents have been participated in this study. Training, reward and motivation have been tested as the independent variables in this study. Meanwhile, employees' performance has been examined as the dependent variable in this study. The questionnaires comprised of 28 items based on Likert Scale ranged from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5). In this study, data is collected from 355 employees based on the simple random sampling technique. Results presented that training and reward had significant and positive relationships with employee performance. Interestingly, results revealed that motivation had significant and negative relationship with employee performance in this study. Therefore, motivation did not give great impact on employee performance based on the study findings. Hence, this study concluded that the organization should emphasis on employees' training and reward to ensure the employees' performance can be increased.

The critical success factor of risk management towards safety and health performance in manufacturing industry

Risk management provides an idea or method to top management in creating a successful approach to addressing the risks inherent in an organisation. Risk management is the act of identifying opportunities for maximizing risk management and minimizing any risks that may arise while implementing processes within the organisation. In this study, risk management is a method of measuring and solving problems that can identify, evaluate and conduct research at each risk and maximize success and minimize problems involving high risk in the future that occur within an organisation. The objective of the study is to identify the relationship between the critical success factor of risk management toward safety and health performance in manufacturing industry. The risk of workplace accidents is increasing and the manufacturing sector is among the most at risk for workplace accidents in terms of permanent disability, permanent disability and death. This research is quantitative method and used questionnaire to collect data. Total 267 questionnaires were distributed in manufacturing companies in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Based on the regression analysis result, there is significant relationship between critical success factors of risk management towards safety and health performance in manufacturing industry.

Personality traits and conflict management styles: building the relationship through leadership effectiveness

The present study examines the relationship between personality traits (PTs) and conflict management styles (CMSs) directly and indirectly through leadership effectiveness (LE) in Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach: This quantitative study employs a survey questionnaire to collect cross-sectional data from academic leaders of higher education institutes (HEIs) in Pakistan. The authors utilized 325 useable cases to conclude the results. Findings: The findings through the structural equation model (SEM) resulted in a positive and significant effect of agreeableness (AGS) on integrating (ITG), avoiding (AVG), obliging (OBG), compromising (COG) and dominating (DOG) styles. Extraversion (EXN) positively and significantly affects ITG, OBG, DOG and COG. Emotional stability (EMSY) is a positive and significant predictor of ITG, AVG, OBG and COG. The conscientiousness (CNS) trait significantly and positively predicts ITG, OBG, DOG, COG and AVG. Likewise, openness (OPS) positively and significantly affects ITG, OBG, DOG and COG styles. On the other hand, EXN and OPS negatively and insignificantly affect AVG. Finally, EMSY is the negative and insignificant predictor of DOG among academic leaders. Practical implications: This study offers additional insights into understanding direct and indirect connections between PTs and CMSs through EL. It would support the development of effective policies and organizational setup to resolve and manage conflict and employees' behaviour. Finally, the findings would further enrich the worth of literature through another empirical confirmation. Originality/value: This study offers the original contribution of PTs and CMSs among academic leaders in HEIs of Pakistan.

Digital technology and intentions to adopt digital e-health practices among health-care professionals

Purpose In the present era, digital technology can be used responsibly to provide developed and developing countries with high-quality health-care services to nations. This study aims to explore Saudi Arabia’s intentions to adopt digital health-care practices. Design/methodology/approach To be consistent with previous studies, this study used a quantitative methodology to collect the data from health-care professionals working in Saudi Arabia’s public and private health institutes. Consequently, this study’s findings are based on 306 valid samples. Findings On the one hand, the path analysis reveals that health-care professionals believe in perceptions relating to the use of e-health and technology (PEHT) and experiences regarding internet use (ERIU) and that these have positive and significant effects on attitudes toward the use of e-health and technology (ATEHT) and intentions to use e-health services (ITUES). On the other hand, barriers to using e-health (BUEH) negatively impact ATEHT and ITUES. Finally, ATEHT also has a positive and significant effect on ITUES. Practical implications This study’s findings will help Saudi Arabia’s policymakers and the country’s health ministry to develop policies to provide e-services that health-care professionals can use to improve the quality of the country’s health care, patients’ human rights and social care. Furthermore, this study’s findings are helpful in developing attitudes and intentions toward either e-health or digital health to provide better health facilities to serve Saudi Arabia’s citizens. Originality/value This study empirically confirms among Saudi Arabia’s health-care professionals the PEHT, ERIU and BUEH toward ATEHT and ITUES.

A review of engineering leadership concept: a way forward

Leadership is a critical component in business management, and in some situations, it can be vital to the survival of a company or organization. The concept of leadership has been extensively studied across various disciplines, yet the specific domain of engineering leadership remains underexplored and poorly defined. Every engineering organization, regardless of size, requires leaders and employees to execute projects to ensure their organization's success. This review article examines the existing definitions of leadership and engineering leadership, highlighting the lack of consensus in the field. By analyzing current literature, the authors identify the key attributes and skills associated with engineering leadership and discuss their relevance to contemporary engineering practices. Our findings reveal a fragmented understanding of engineering leadership, underscoring the need for further empirical studies to develop a cohesive and comprehensive definition. This article aims to provide a foundational understanding of engineering leadership and proposes directions for future research to bridge the gaps in the current knowledge, thereby paving the way for the development of robust theoretical and practical frameworks in engineering leadership. This paper focuses on leadership in the engineering context as the engineering sector plays a vital role in addressing sustainable development on a local, national, regional and global level. The concept of engineering leadership is dynamic across countries and sectors, thus merits more attention from scholars to explore the dynamism of the concept

Leading towards the students’ career development and career intentions through using multidimensional soft skills in the digital age

Purpose: In the digital age, the development of students’ career intentions requires serious concentration since these are associated with the students’ future employment and, ultimately, their survival. This study attempted to demonstrate in Pakistan’s Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) the role of soft skills towards the students' career development (CD) and their future career intentions (CI). Design/methodology/approach: In this study, the researchers used a quantitative approach and a questionnaire to collect the data from the surveyed participants. Finally, the researchers based this study’s findings on 392 useable samples. Findings: By employing the structural equation model (SEM), this study’s findings show that soft skills, such as Creative Self-Efficacy (CSE), Problem-Solving Confidence (PSC) and Teamwork (TW) have a positive and significant effect on CD and CI. However, while Critical thinking and Creativity (CRC) has a positive and significant effect on CD, it has no effect on CI. In addition, this study’s findings confirm, also, that CD has a positive and significant effect on CI. Practical implications: This study’s findings assist policymakers and university administrators to understand the importance of soft skills in creating CD and CI. These promote the development of employability skills and fulfill its part in preparing graduates for the unpredictable job market. This study’s findings help, also, to develop logical reasoning in making decisions and in dealing with complex organizational issues. Originality/value: In a practical way, in Pakistan, this study’s findings confirm the role of soft skills towards students' CD and CI.
