PublicationElectrically tunable Left-Handed textile metamaterial for microwave applications( 2021)
;Kabir Hossain ;Ping Jack Soh ;Mohd Haizal Jamaluddin ;Samir Salem Al-Bawri ;R. Badlishah, AhmadNitin SalujaAn electrically tunable, textile-based metamaterial (MTM) is presented in this work. The proposed MTM unit cell consists of a decagonal-shaped split-ring resonator and a slotted ground plane integrated with RF varactor diodes. The characteristics of the proposed MTM were first studied independently using a single unit cell, prior to different array combinations consisting of 1 × 2, 2 × 1, and 2 × 2 unit cells. Experimental validation was conducted for the fabricated 2 × 2 unit cell array format. The proposed tunable MTM array exhibits tunable left-handed characteristics for both simulation and measurement from 2.71 to 5.51 GHz and provides a tunable transmission coefficient of the MTM. Besides the left-handed properties within the frequency of interest (from 1 to 15 GHz), the proposed MTM also exhibits negative permittivity and permeability from 8.54 to 10.82 GHz and from 10.6 to 13.78 GHz, respectively. The proposed tunable MTM could operate in a dynamic mode using a feedback system for different microwave wearable applications. -
PublicationRadiation pattern reconfigurable MIMO Antenna with practical DC bias network( 2022-01-01)
;Jaya Bharath A/L Gopalakrishnan ;Thennarasan A/L Sabapathy ;Muhammad Ramlee KamarudinSoh Ping JackThis paper presents a radiation pattern reconfigurable (RPR) based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna. The proposed antenna operates at 3.5 GHz for all switching conditions with S21 results of less than -20 dB. This work specifically focuses on implementing a practical DC bias network for the previously proposed RPR-MIMO antenna. The DC bias design is crucial where the tilt angle is slightly affected. This could be due to the isolation loss and insertion loss provided by the actual switch; and the DC bias lines that were constructed using a few DC blocking capacitors and RF chokes. Finally, a comprehensive analysis was carried out to examine the beam steering performance of the antenna when implemented with the DC bias network.3 1 -
PublicationDesign of Electronically Steerable High Mode Dielectric Resonator Antenna using PIN Diode( 2020-09-28)
;Wei C.K. ;Alaydrus M. ;Awal M.R.This paper presents a reconfigurable beam dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) at 2.4 GHz by adopting the yagi-uda concept. Rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) have been chosen as the radiator and fed by slot aperture. The antenna is designed in Taconic substrate with permittivity of 2.2. Firstly, a single antenna with two different modes is designed and investigated. The best performance mode in term of gain is then used to design the single driven RDRA with two parasitic RDRA, connected with the four RF pin diode BAR50-02V as switch. The analysis of the gap between driven and parasitic element is investigated. Four different types of switch configuration have been carried out to identify the performance of antenna in different cases. Depending on the switch configurations, the designed antenna can achieved highest gain of 7.386 dB and have steering angle capability at-42°, 42°,-54° and 54°.1 -
PublicationA hybrid modified sine cosine algorithm using inverse filtering and clipping methods for low autocorrelation binary sequences( 2022-01-01)
;Rosli S.J. ;Abdulmalek M.Alkhayyat A.The essential purpose of radar is to detect a target of interest and provide information concerning the target's location, motion, size, and other parameters. The knowledge about the pulse trains' properties shows that a class of signals is mainlywell suited to digital processing of increasing practical importance. A low autocorrelation binary sequence (LABS) is a complex combinatorial problem. The main problems of LABS are low Merit Factor (MF) and shorter length sequences. Besides, the maximumpossibleMF equals 12.3248 as infinity length is unable to be achieved. Therefore, this study implemented two techniques to propose a new metaheuristic algorithm based on Hybrid Modified Sine Cosine Algorithm with Cuckoo Search Algorithm (HMSCACSA) using Inverse Filtering (IF) and clipping method to achieve better results. The proposed algorithms, LABS-IF and HMSCACSA-IF, achieved better results with two large MFs equal to 12.12 and 12.6678 for lengths 231 and 237, respectively, where the optimal solutions belong to the skew-symmetric sequences. TheMFoutperformed up to 24.335% and 2.708% against the state-of-the-art LABS heuristic algorithm, xLastovka, and Golay, respectively. These results indicated that the proposed algorithm's simulation had quality solutions in terms of fast convergence curve with better optimal means, and standard deviation.1
