Redesign of bahulu production layout to improve the efficiency of process flow
This research presents the optimum efficiency improvement of process flow by redesigned the production layout using facility planning methods in a company producing traditional cakes which are bahulu that currently have bottleneck issue, inefficient flow and unnecessary excess movement between activities. The objectives of this study to improve the current plant layout by redesigned it with increasing the production efficiency and productivity of the company. To achieve this aim, there are several layouts generated using Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Graph-Based Theory (GBT) and the Efficiency Rate (ER) of each layout was calculated. The layout with the highest rate was then selected and validated by using WITNESS software. The result showed that the ER of the selected layout improved from 74.49% to 93.40% and also increased the productivity and reduced the processing time up to 10%. The described case study will show how the efficiency and productivity of a real manufacturing system can be improved by redesign layout.

Non flow process ultra high temperature (UHT) boiler application to dadih processes
The 'dadih' and milk factory is kind of a small factory and it is called as SME (Small and Medium Enterprise). The purpose of visiting to these factories is to find out the main problem faced by the factories currently. Through a series of analysis such as questionnaire, interview and also observation, the problems are found. According to the factories visited, the cooking method by the factories are varies. Some of the factories are using the traditional method which is cooking by using gas stove and some are using semi-automated boiler. However, the boiling point of the traditional cooking method is around 100°C and it is not able to kill the milk spores in the milk products. A high temperature (135°C-150°C) to cook the milk products in short time (3s-5s) is the basic requirement to kill the milk spores in the milk products. The milk spores are the main reason to shorten the life span of the milk products. According to the information provided by the factory, the life span of 'dadih' produced by using the traditional method are very short which is maximum 2 or 3 weeks if it is refrigerated. In other words, if the products are placed in a normal room temperature, it will not last more than 4 hours. The problem is those factories are intended to buy a UHT boiler but the existing boiler in the market is too big and too expensive which is not suitable and affordable by Small and Medium size (SME) companies.

Design and development of fire escape window grille keyless locking system
The most fire-related fatalities are due to the smoke inhalation of the toxic gases. It is related to the victims being trapped in the building when the building was on fire. It was also reported that major deaths from fire related are from the toxic gases inhalation produced by the fire while the deaths due to fire flames and burning was about one third of the total deaths. The access to the exit door was blocked and they could not exit through the window due to the permanent grille installation. It was well aware that most Malaysian homeowners installed grilles on their house windows or doors for security reason since there are lots of break-ins incidences. To overcome the issue, this work introduces a window grille with keyless locking system. The design incorporated keyless system that can be operated or opened without a key. Several designs for implementing this solution have been described. These designs are divided into three sections, which is a grille design, expansion designs which use to accommodate a wide range of window-sized and keyless locking systems. The size and type of grille suitable for Malaysian residents as well as the more efficient keyless locking system has been studied in detail using the method of case study and survey method. Step of patent research, market analysis and benchmarking are used as methods for collecting reference data. The most effective fire escape window grille keyless locking system has been studied and designed from this project. An important factor in designing a fire window grille is the design that can be opened and does not require a key operation. The results of the design and analysis tested are presented such that they can be used as an aid to the design of fire escape features.

The egg-hatching machine comprises a several main factors that has been adapted and developed in this machine. The main factors are temperature, humidity, turning orientation and ventilation. The development of the machine without considering these factors will lead to failure or low percentage of hatching success. Therefore, these important factors must be included and adapted to machine. The best temperature for egg incubation is 37.8 °C or 100 °F and for relative humidity is from 55% to 65%. For egg, turning and orientation can be done from 2 to 6 times daily. The angle for turning is from 30° to 90°. The use of forced-air incubation method in this machine instead of still-air incubation had helped to regulate the air and supply oxygen to the eggs in the chamber. Besides considering all factors, other supportive factor that will help to increase the percentage of hatching success also must not be neglected. The supportive factors are location to place the machine, insulation for preventing heat loses and hygiene or cleanliness of the machine. Although these supportive factors are not the main parameter for egg incubation, these factors also need some attention as they also one the keys for hatching success.

Optimization parameter effects on the quality surface finish of the three-dimensional printing (3D-printing) fused deposition modeling (FDM) using RSM
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an additive manufacturing technology which is used to print the 3D (Three-Dimensional) object. It has relatively low surface qualities that will affect the performance of the printed part. Thus, this research has been done to analyze the selected parameter effect on the quality surface finish of the 3D printing objects and find the optimum response of processing parameters using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). In order to predict the surface roughness, three parameters have been chosen which are layer thickness, print speed and fill density. The relations among responses and process parameters are determined and their validity is proved using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Then, the response surface plots are analyzed to establish main factor effects and their interaction on responses. The confirmation experiment has been carried out with the response optimizer to get the optimum parameter of the surface finish quality. Based on the results obtained, the surface roughness is mainly affected by the layer thickness compared to the fill density and print speed.

This project explores the design enhancements by applying the techniques of Manufacturing and Assembly Design (DFMA). This project explores the design enhancements by applying the techniques of Manufacturing and Assembly Design (DFMA). The drone control components were isolated to obtain data. By using the Boothroyd-Dewhurst method, the data obtained will be analyzed to verify the design efficiency during manual handling and manual insertion time. Using the Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Application (CATIA) software, the components of the original and improvement products were separated and drawn. The data next that have been generated by differentiate these two products is next been analysed. Through the analysis, the results tell that the design efficiency of enhancement product is better than the existing design. This is because of the reducing in number of parts, manual handling and manual insertion times and also due to the design costs. Finally, the improvement in the design of the drone control can meet the needs of consumers and may providing satisfaction to them.

A study was performed to produce a pneumatic air engine using two linear actuators and then the linear motion was converted to a rotating motion using a crank shaft. This study aims to increase the use of linear actuators in pneumatic air engines as well as to apply pressurized air as an efficient and convenient transportation mechanism in line with the development of technologies developed through products available in the market. Two units of linear actuator such as pneumatic cylinders with two units of 5/2 way directional control valve with double solenoid actuation are used to control the cylinder movement. The cylinder will rotate the crank shaft when receiving a signal from the solenoid valve with 5 bar air pressure. In conclusion, the system can travel up to 153 meters for a 24-liter air-pressure with 5 bar pressure when the test is run for a charging cycle by the compressor motor. If the compressor motor able to charge the compressor continuously, the movement distance can be increased.
