Perkembangan teknologi dan transformasi digital memberikan impak yang signifikan kepada kehidupan belia pada masa kini. Oleh itu, pelbagai inisiatif dilaksanakan bagi menjayakan perubahan tersebut menerusi pemerkasaan literasi maklumat dan media (MIL), kesediaan digital, dan keselamatan siber terhadap golongan belia. Tindakan ini bagi memastikan amalan digital mereka berdaya tahan dalam persekitaran digital yang semakin mencabar. Kecekapan-kecekapan ini penting untuk membantu para belia menjadi pengguna yang kritis dan beretika, sekaligus mencipta kesejahteraan digital yang holistik dalam pelbagai aspek seperti kerjaya, keusahawanan, sosial, ekonomi, mental, dan psikologi. Demikianlah, betapa pentingnya setiap individu mempunyai tanggungjawab dalam menyumbang kepada kesejahteraan digital melalui aktiviti yang dilakukan dalam talian secara bersepadu dan holistik. Tambahan pula, penguasaan pengetahuan dan kecekapan berkaitan digital menjadi tunjang kepada pemerkasaan kecerdasan digital (DQ) dan membentuk kesiapsiagaan kemahiran masa depan dalam kalangan belia.

Relationship between COVID-19 information sources and attitudes in battling the pandemic among the Malaysian public: cross-sectional survey study

Background: There are multiple media platforms and various resources available for information on COVID-19. Identifying people’s preferences is key to building public confidence and planning for successful national health intervention strategies. Objective: This study examines the sources of information for COVID-19 used by the Malaysian public and identifies those that are associated with building public confidence and positive perceptions toward the Malaysian government. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey of 4850 Malaysian residents was conducted. Participant demographics, media use, information sources, and attitudes surrounding COVID-19 were assessed. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to gauge the relationship between demographics, information sources, and attitudes toward COVID-19. Results: Malaysians primarily used television and internet news portals to access information on COVID-19. The Malaysian Ministry of Health was the most preferred source of COVID-19 information. Respondents who referred to the Ministry of Health, television, and the Malaysian National Security Council for information were more likely to believe that the country could win the battle against COVID-19 and that the government was handling the health crisis well compared to those who referred to other information sources. Those who used the World Health Organization, friends, YouTube, family, and radio as sources of information were less likely to harbor confidence and positive belief toward combating COVID-19. Conclusions: Managing information and sustaining public confidence is important during a pandemic. Health authorities should pay considerable attention to the use of appropriate media channels and sources to allow for more effective dissemination of critical information to the public.

Health-related social media use among youth in Malaysia

In the Web 2.0 era, social media are pervasive, rapidly evolving and increasingly influencing people's daily life and their health behaviour. Emerging as a potential source for online health information it significantly contributed to the increase in access and usage of new media, particularly among youth. However, little is known about how they use social media for such purposes. This study is seek to identify the patterns of social media use among youth scouting around (1) the most popular social media, types and form of information sought (2) frequency of social media use and (3) activities on social media in the context of health information search. This descriptive quantitative study consisted of an online questionnaire survey of 509 youth. The population is a group of youths who are pursuing their studies at public universities (age range 18-25) randomly selected through multi stage random sampling. Four selected universities to represent the zones and G Power Analysis Software has been used to identify sample size. Facebook is the main choice for respondents in the search for health information after Youtube and Blog. Twitter was less used by respondents in the context of health information search. In terms of health information sought, the majority of respondents liked to seek information about the cause of the disease, symptoms, complications or effects and nutritional information. Most respondents prefer to seek health information in the form of images and storytelling/personal experiences of suffering from illness. Respondents spent most of their time on Blog and Youtube for reading on health information. Youth are using social media for seeking health information. However, they are more likely to consume information than they are to contribute to the information posted online. The inherent value of "social"in social media is not being captured with online health information use.

Intercultural sensitivity among teachers and prospective teachers: A review

The diversity of students in the classroom requires prospective teachers to have an appropriate sensitivity and competency as a preparation for teaching students from various ethnicities and cultures background. However, realizing this goal is not a simple task. Teaching culturally and ethnically diverse students is a huge challenge for teachers as well as prospective teachers. It is possible that teachers have an awareness of cultural differences but may not be sensitive enough to the cultural differences in the classroom. Therefore, there is a need for teachers to not just have an awareness of cultural differences but also be sensitive to teach a diverse student effectively. Teacher education programs is very important period in preparing prospective with all the competencies needed. Teachers as well as prospective teachers must have a high level of cultural sensitivity so they can respond effectively in terms of diversity in their classrooms and prepare their students to live and work in a global society. This paper discusses on intercultural sensitivity among teachers and prospective teacher and related theories regarding this issue.

The influence of crisis emotions and attitude towards health information crisis behavior in social media among youth in Malaysia

Social media is a one-stop centre of information that increased consumer dependency to seek and share information and protective action during public health crises. This scenario leads to the dumping of various information, including health information. Hence, the study is conducted to discover the relationship between crisis emotions and attitude in health information crisis in social media among students in Malaysian higher education institutions. This study utilized a quantitative research approach through a cross-sectional design. A total of 471 respondents from selected higher education institutions participated in the present study through a simple random sampling technique. Results showed that there is a significant relationship between crisis emotions towards youth behaviour. The finding also indicates that a moderately significant relationship between attitude toward youth behaviour. Analysis of multiple regression also shows that crisis emotions and attitudes were significantly contributed to the proposed model of youth behaviour in the health information crisis in social media. Thus, the model reflected the importance of crisis emotions and attitude as predictors of youth behaviour in health information crises in the context of social media. Emotion and attitude play a critical role during health information crises. Emotion and attitude are the driving forces behind the interplay of relationships on social networking sites. They can trigger online viral sharing that can spread both positive and negative sentiments like wildfire.

Attitudes toward Plasmodium knowlesi Malaria prevention behaviours among at-risk communities and health district officers’ efforts and challenges in promoting these behaviours: an elicitation study in Peninsular Malaysia

This study explores at-risk communities’ attitudes toward Plasmodium knowlesi (P. knowlesi) malaria prevention behaviours using the Integrated Behavioural Model (IBM) as a guiding framework. This study also presents efforts and challenges faced by district health officers in Peninsular Malaysia in their role as the health authority for mitigating the disease. Seventeen informants were selected from at-risk areas in three states with high cases of P. knowlesi in 2019 (Johor, Pahang, Kelantan) to be interviewed. Semistructured interview questions were developed guided by the IBM framework. Three district health officers who were involved in malaria prevention efforts in the selected states were also interviewed. Qualitative data analysis using Atlas.ti 8 software was used to facilitate thematic coding. Five prevention behaviours were found to be prevalent among the informants and are hypothesised to be suited for behavioural improvement intervention among at-risk communities. The prevention behaviours identified are: consuming prophylaxis, wearing long sleeves, using bed nets, mosquito coils and insect repellent. Current efforts by health district officers for P. knowlesi malaria prevention include erecting warning signs, community education programmes, and empowering community influencers. Challenges faced by the health district officers include difficulty accessing remote locations, limited facilities, and military-specific issues. This study suggests that future prevention efforts focused on behavioural improvement among atrisk communities in Malaysia should concentrate on the five prevention efforts most prevalent among these communities.

The relationship of motivation towards online buying intention among UniMAP students

The evolution of technology has made our planet diverse faster than ever before. The impact on industry and marketing strategies, in particular, has become crucial. From ancient marketing strategies to modern methods, developments are diverse everywhere, and digital platforms play a crucial role. Digital marketing was seen as an innovative method of advertisement that generated fresh ideas for companies to try to do business. Marketing activities carried out through digital channels have made it possible for marketers to connect directly with potential consumers regardless of their geographical location. Knowing how to use digital platforms has been exaggerated, just like the Internet, email, smartphones and digital TV, and advertisers are currently using these platforms for different roles in the promotion. The significance of this study is to know about the impact of digital marketing and investigate the relationship of motivation factors towards online buying intention of UniMAP students. Interestingly, results revealed that motivation had a significant relationship with motivational factors towards online consumer buying intention. Social media marketing and content marketing, digital marketing platforms, have contributed to online consumer buying intention.

Social mediated crisis communication model: a solution for social media crisis?

This Concept Paper discussed organizational crisis especially social media crisis. The existence of social media makes it difficult for organizations to manage emerging crises. This concept paper is written to explain about crisis management based on the Social Mediated Crisis Communication (SMCC) model. The main purpose of this paper is to see the extent to which it can help in crisis management, especially in organizations. There is an explanation on the addition and simplification of the SMCC model to better facilitate the organization in crisis management and its main focus is through social media. Social media plays an important role when a crisis occurs because of its interactive nature compared to traditional media. The methodology based on previous studies explains the qualitative method used in the description of the addition and simplification of the SMCC model. The result of the concept of this paper is about crisis management especially social media crisis with the use of SMCC model.

Individual, host-vector interactions, and environmental risk factors for Plasmodium knowlesi malaria among at-risk communities in Peninsular Malaysia: a case-control study

Background: Highlighting the individual, host-vector interactions, and environmental risk factors for knowlesi malaria were consequential toward more focused and effective prevention and control strategies. This study aims to identify the individual, host-vector interactions, and environmental risk factors for Plasmodium knowlesi malaria among at-risk communities in Peninsular Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A case-control study was conducted involving laboratory-confirmed cases of P. knowlesi malaria, while a locality-matched individual with no history of fever and tested negative for malaria was taken as control. Univariate and multiple logistic regression were applied to evaluate the potential risk factors among respondents using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 26.0. Results: Results showed higher cases among males as compared to females (76.1% vs. 23.9%). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed being male is 3.51 higher risk (p < 0.001) to become a case. Respondents whose place of work or study is near the forest edge have 44.0% lower risk (p = 0.030), while those living in the Orang Asli village were 56.0% lower risk as compared to the organized village to become a case (p = 0.035). Conclusion: These findings demonstrated that gender emerges as an independent individual risk factor while residing near a forest edge, in an Orang Asli village, or occupying workers’ longhouses situated in hilly areas lowered the environmental risk among respondents. These findings attested that alternative directions must be considered in addressing the known risk factors associated with this type of malaria and the design of prevention and control programs should be tailored to the unique characteristics of each population.
