PublicationConceptualization of co-worker support: A qualitative study among human resource practitioners( 2023-04-24)
; ; ;Mohd Fitri M.Along with rapid industrial and societal transformations, Human Resource (HR) profession is one of the professions that play a pivotal role in the organizations to keep abreast with the changes. Transformations will be accompanied by the changes in values, thus requiring HR practitioners to make constant revisions in the employment law and practices. In this challenging environment, employees are expected to assume greater responsibilities in or to adapt to the changing environment successfully. Such a challenging environment can be strenuous to employees. In order to cope in such an environment, employees often seek support from their social relationships at work. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the concept of co-worker support among HR practitioners. Based on the findings, six themes of co-worker support were identified. A clearer conceptualization of co-worker support established contributed to the body of knowledge. Practically, the conceptualization of co-worker support can be used to assess support-related issues pertaining to social relationships at work, which can help organizations undertake appropriate actions to strengthen employee relations and create a harmonious working environment. -

;Alim Maktar ;Leadership is a critical component in business management, and in some situations, it can be vital to the survival of a company or organization. The concept of leadership has been extensively studied across various disciplines, yet the specific domain of engineering leadership remains underexplored and poorly defined. Every engineering organization, regardless of size, requires leaders and employees to execute projects to ensure their organization's success. This review article examines the existing definitions of leadership and engineering leadership, highlighting the lack of consensus in the field. By analyzing current literature, the authors identify the key attributes and skills associated with engineering leadership and discuss their relevance to contemporary engineering practices. Our findings reveal a fragmented understanding of engineering leadership, underscoring the need for further empirical studies to develop a cohesive and comprehensive definition. This article aims to provide a foundational understanding of engineering leadership and proposes directions for future research to bridge the gaps in the current knowledge, thereby paving the way for the development of robust theoretical and practical frameworks in engineering leadership. This paper focuses on leadership in the engineering context as the engineering sector plays a vital role in addressing sustainable development on a local, national, regional and global level. PublicationMedical staff engagement in public hospital: the role of citizenship behaviour and trust during COVID-19 pandemic(AIP Publishing, 2023)
; ; ;Suraiya Ibrahim ;Irza Hanie Abu Samah ;Eva RosdianaThe purpose of conducting this study is to examine the effect of employee citizenship behaviour and trust on employee engagement among medical staff in one of public hospital located in the Northern Region of Malaysia. This research is carried out by using a quantitative method through the distribution of the self-directed questionnaires. Simple random sampling is utilised in this research. The sample size consisted of 160 medical staff who have participated voluntarily to involve in the study. Based on the multiple regression analysis, results presented a significant effect of citizenship behaviour on employee engagement (β=.55, t=8.07, p=.00) among medical staff in this institution. Similarly, a significant effect of trust on medical staff engagement (β=.49, t=3.34, p=.00) is presented in this study. In the current scenario, the public health institutions should actively penetrate the elements of citizenship and trust in order to remain the desired level of medical staff engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. -
PublicationGender equality towards work family balance, political matters and gender-based violence: an empirical investigation in the Malaysian higher education institutions(AIP Publishing, 2023)
; ; ;Najwa Awanis Noor Azman ;Irza Hanie Abu SamahFaradilla SafitriThe goal of this research is to investigate the perception of gender equality toward several key terms related to measuring gender equality in Malaysian higher education. This research aims to reveal the perceptions of communities in the Malaysia's Northern Region higher education regarding a variety of issues such as work family balance, political matters and gender-based violence. This study employs a quantitative approach with the distribution of self-directed Google Form questionnaires. In this research, convenient sampling is used. The sample size was made up of 370 employees from those institutions who volunteered to take part in the study. In terms of work family balance, the results showed that most participants can manage their housework while also committing to their office work, with the exception of bringing up children, which made them feel difficult to balance. According to the descriptive analyses, the results showed a medium level of perception on women and political matters (μ=3.16), as well as gender-based violence (μ=2.10) among communities in the Malaysian higher education. In the current situation, higher education institutions should actively increase the level of perception toward work family balance and political issues, while decreasing or diminishing the level of perception towards other issues related to gender-based violence. This is to ensure that the nation's overall goals and objectives for gender equality are met. -

Companies want their employees to understand the company’s vision and objectives and meet the individual goals set by the managers. The insurance industry in Bangladesh has stagnant growth compared to other industries. Moreover, insurance companies are lagging in managing human resources, especially permanent employees. Sustainable employee performance will help companies to achieve sustainable growth. This study aimed to identify the influencing factors that impact sustainable employee performance of insurance industry employees in Bangladesh. The study utilized the social exchange theory as the underpinning theory. The study modified the social exchange theory and proposed a research framework with five indicator variables: compensation, job satisfaction, work environment, leadership style, and motivation. The survey included 200 insurance company employees from various departments and companies. The collected data were analyzed using the partial least square–structural equation modeling (PLS–SEM) method using SMART PLS 3.2.7 software. The findings revealed that all the factors significantly positively impacted sustainable employee performance. The results of the study are helpful for academicians and researchers to analyze employee performance further. In addition, the results will help insurance companies and policymakers to make appropriate decisions to ensure sustainable employee performance in the organization.1 -

;Mursyidi Mohammad ;Meaningful work has gained increasing attention due to dissatisfaction with job demands and a search for purpose. Drawing on extensive prior research, this study explores the significance of a sense of purpose, social connection, and self-esteem in meaningful work. The researcher's approach combines a thorough review of past research to establish a robust foundation by administering questionnaires to 309 participants. Rigorous statistical analysis was then employed to reveal the intricate relationships between these psychological factors and the perception of meaningful work. Individuals with a sense of purpose tend to find their work imbued with meaning, providing direction to their daily lives. Additionally, positive correlations emerge between social support, pro-social behaviours, and meaningful work experience. Conversely, underemployed individuals tend to report fewer interactions with co-workers. This research underscores the central roles of sense of purpose, social connection, and self-esteem in shaping perceptions of meaningful work. Insights gained from this study can inform strategies to enhance meaningful work experiences and promote well-being in the workplace.18 1 -

This rampant situation creates 'rubbing salt into the wound' for many enterprises in order to survival and sustain in the market. Enterprises should alter the business strategy from the traditional way of running the business to the new phenomenon of business strategy i.e. crowdsourcing practices. In view of the above, the aim of this study is to investigate how the SMEs could minimise the operating costs in order to boost business performance mainly COVID 19 pandemic. Specifically, the objectives of this study are to examine the impacts of crowdsourcing practices, crowdsourcing cost reduction towards business performance for SMEs in Malaysia. The findings revealed that, the crowdsourcing practices and crowdsourcing cost reduction positively significantly to the SMEs in Malaysia in order to enhance the business performance. PublicationThe role of education and skills on economic growth in Malaysia(AIP Publishing, 2023)
; ; ;Intan Maizura Abd RashidEconomic growth is significant for a country to raise its standard of living. It is found that economic growth can be contributed by several factors such as capital, labour and total factor productivity (TFP). Therefore, this study aims to analyse the contribution of education and labour skills to economic growth in Malaysia. For this purpose, the analysis of the study is to use the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach. The focus of the study is in Malaysia based on data for the period 1982-2017 obtained from the Department of Statistics Malaysia and the International Labour Organisation. The results show that only capital and labour variables with tertiary education can contribute to economic growth in Malaysia in the long run. Nevertheless, the findings of the study in the short-term show that the variables of capital, labour with tertiary education, secondary education and the ratio of skilled labour can contribute to economic growth. Therefore, the country needs to allocate greater expenditure to the education and training sector as education and labour skills have a positive impact.3 12
