Publication16×16 fast signed multiplier using Booth and Vedic architecture( 2018-12-06)
;Shing L.Z. ;Hussin R. ;Kamarudin A. ;Mohyar S.N. ;Taking S. ;Aziz M.H.A.Ahmad N.This paper present the new 16×16 signed multiplier design using Booth architecture and Vedic architecture. The Booth architecture is based on Radix-4 Booth multiplier which reduces the number of partial product generated into almost half. Vedic architecture has advantages in partial product generation and addition which are done concurrently [1]. In order to improved the performance of signed muliplier, the 16×16 signed multiplicand and multiplier is partition by using the 16×16 Vedic architecture (8 bits per block). Radix-4 Booth multiplier is used to multiply each block as in 16×16 Vedic architecture. This new 16×16 signed multiplier is taking advantages on Booth multiplier approach on top of Vedic achitecture. It has simple architecture compared to normal 16×16 Radix-4 Booth multiplier. This new signed multiplier uses Ripple Carry Adder (RCA) or Carry Look-Ahead Adder (CLA) to add up the generated partial product. This new 16×16 signed multiplier has improved the performance by reducing the total propagation delay. The new 16×16 signed multiplier design 1 (RCA) and design 2 (CLA) are 33.4% and 35.6% faster compared to the 16×16 Radix-4 Booth multiplier. It is because the partial product generation by Radix-4 Booth multiplier and partial product addition are done concurrently using Vedic architecture. -

;Mansur T. ;Baharudin N.Ali R.Malaysia has moved forward by promoting the use of renewable energy such as solar PV to the public to reduce dependency on fossil fuel-based energy resources. Due to the concern on high electricity bill, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is keen to install solar PV system as an initiative for energy saving program to its buildings. The objective of this paper is to technically and economically evaluate the different sizing of solar PV system for university buildings under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme. The study involves gathering of solar energy resource information, daily load profile of the buildings, sizing PV array together with grid-connected inverters and the simulation of the designed system using PVsyst software. Based on the results obtained, the amount of solar energy generated and used by the load per year is between 5.10% and 20.20% from the total annual load demand. Almost all solar energy generated from the system will be self-consumed by the loads. In terms of profit gained, the university could reduce its electricity bill approximately between a quarter to one million ringgit per annum depending on the sizing capacity. Beneficially, the university could contribute to the environmental conservation by avoiding up to 2,000 tons of CO2 emission per year. -

PublicationA comparative study on Whole Body Vibration (WBV) comfort towards compact car model through data mining approach( 2018-01-01)
;Abdullah M. ;Junoh A. ;Muhamad W. ;Desa A.Zakaria M.Nowadays people of Malaysian spend a significant amount of time traveling by the vehicle to travel from one location to another location, and this could be the main reason to decrease minimal vibration for the comfort level in transportation. The vibration that generated while driving can influence pressure and eliminate the focus to the driver and passenger, and this is one of the main causes that can lead accidents on the roads. In this study, we investigate the effect of the vibration caused by the tire interaction with the road surface. The methodology focuses on the trends which occur on the vibration exposure that has been generated throughout the engine operating rpm range in both stationary and non-stationary conditions. An equation will be approached through the analysis to find the significant data that can be used in the process which is K-Means algorithm. Based on the trends of the experienced and exposed vibration, the model is able to differentiate the level of comfort between the clusters by grouping the level of vibration into five categories. To review the accuracy of classification data cluster, the K-Nearest Neighbor method and Analysis Linear Discriminant is used for shows the percentage accuracy of classification data have been a cluster. Later, the vibration for the three cars in this study which has analyzed, compared using the approach of analysis of variations (ANOVA). -

A direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay format was first developed and optimized on the surface of a carbon screen-printed working electrode by immobilizing the capture antibody (polyclonal) using an electro-deposition of gold nanoparticles conjugated with polyclonal antitetracycline antibodies. The detection reagent, tetracycline-horseradish peroxidase conjugate, was used as an enzyme label. Electrochemical detection was then carried out using 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine dihydrochloride/H2O2 as the enzyme mediator/substrate system, and conducted using chronoamperometry at 300 mV versus an onboard screen-printed Ag-AgCl pseudo-reference electrode. It also showed very high sensitivity using the amplification strategy applied with the use of gold nano-particles. This makes the developed sensor a potential tool for rapid, simple, and sensitive detection of Tungro disease in paddy plantations. -

PublicationA hybrid life cycle assessment of embodied energy and carbon emissions from conventional and industrialised building systems in Malaysia( 2018-05-15)Wan Omar W.M.S.Life cycle assessment (LCA) is considered to be the most systematic methodology that is widely used in the area of energy analysis. However, embodied energy (EE) and carbon (EC) analysis requires significant time and effort to ensure the reliability of the LCA results. Therefore, a more comprehensive model of conducting the energy analysis is required to provide more realistic EE and EC analysis in turn. Hybrid LCA has been identified as the best model in improving the completeness of EE and EC inventory data. However, such a benefit was not empirically verified extensively, especially in the Malaysian construction industry. This paper demonstrates an extended application of hybrid LCA to Malaysian building design systems, and further investigates the completeness of the model. Finally, the potential for EE and EC reduction through the allocation of low EE and EC intensities of alternative materials, products or components has been evaluated. The results revealed that the hybrid LCA improved the completeness of the EE and EC inventory data compared with other models. By using low EE and EC intensity materials, products or components, a total EE and EC reduction of 43% and 41%, respectively was achieved. The results showed that the proposed methodology can assist designers practically during the early stage of the design process in the Malaysian construction industry.
