Solution-focused therapy as a counseling intervention to help individuals whom experiencing psychological distress in organizations

This conceptual paper aims to understand the psychological distress that occurs among employees in organizations and to find out how the Solution-Focused Therapy able to help counsellors in helping their clients in managing their psychological distress. Psychological distress refers to two main components namely depression and anxiety that often occur to employees due to factors such as excessive workload, health problems, responsibilities to family, social relationships, relationships with spouses, time management and lack of self-care. While there are a variety of methods that can be used to help them reduce such stress levels, it is still not well resolved. In fact, it continues to disrupt the emotions and quality of life among the employees. The adverse effects of psychological distress can be identified based on four aspects namely physical, emotional, behaviour and thought. Therefore, it is important for counselling practitioners to strive and help organizational employees to manage their stress better. Solution-Focused Therapy as an intervention in a counselling session that serves as a guideline for the counsellor to understand the factors, effects, and the real issues that is happening to the client. Solution Focused Therapy also helps counsellors to be able to quickly understand the issues and focus more on solutions rather than the problems. By having a clear understanding of the real issue, counsellors can apply techniques in Solution Focused Therapy such as scaling techniques and magic questions in their session. The use of these therapy techniques is proven to help clients to be more realistic in finding their own solutions to the problems and later help them to reduce the level of psychological distress.

Privacy and safety of social media applications: The users awareness among students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia

The development of social media applications has brought many changes and influences to the public in terms of communication and the use of communication technology. The existence of social media applications has made it easier for users to communicate with each other. Social media makes it easy for users to access information in their daily lives and it also has a positive and negative effect on their users especially to the university students. However, from a security and privacy standpoint, this will affect users because of their information and activities accessible through the social networks by irresponsible individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the types of personal information shared by social media users and to measure the level of consumer awareness of privacy and security among students at University Malaysia Perlis. This study used quantitative method which is a questionnaire via google form which was answered by 218 students from University Malaysia Perlis. Data obtained were analysed using Statistical Package for Science for Windows Version 26 (SPSS) software. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the type of personal information shared and the level of awareness about privacy and safety among students. This study suggested that the there is a need to increase the level of awareness of the internet privacy and security among students.

Despite the traditional principle of counselling, online counselling goes beyond than that in providing counselling help at any time and place. The distance between counsellor and client is no longer an issue. Thus, it benefits clients with mental health issues where they can have the session at their own comfort, time, and style. Solution focused therapy counselling aim to have a brief, quick and cost-effective counselling is well suited the online platform. An online and quick solution therapy treatment alternative shall be made accessible for more people to help them manage their anxiety and depression effectively.

Case Study of Cyberbully among Effeminate Male Students in Public University

Social media is a worldwide trend and it has been used by everyone regardless of their age and background. The benefits of social media to consumers are the fast-paced functions of information delivery worldwide. However, social media has its own cost such as cyberbullying which involves the unknown disguised perpetrator and the poor victim. The issue of cyberbullying is a phenomenon that takes place on an internet platform and it has a profound impact on the victim. Cyberbullying is a form of deviant behavior of irresponsible individuals. This case study was conducted to understand the effects of cyberbullying among effeminate male university students. The subjects of the study consisted of four students at two public universities in the northern part of Malaysia. The methodology of research is a qualitative method by using in-depth interviews. The findings show that the main factor for cyberbullying to happen is the feminine character and the content of feminine posts such as fashion and makeup. Furthermore, the subjects are also affected emotionally, academically and in some aspects of their lives. In conclusion, the symptoms of cyberbullying are increasingly widespread and can happen to anyone. Various parties need to work together to control and mitigate these symptoms from continuously damaging the well-being of the community.

The Perception and Use of Social Media by the Parent of Student at University Malaysia Perlis

Communication is very important in an organization as a means of communication with one another. The role of communication is emphasized in an organization as a channel and partnership between partners, lecturers, family members and others. Communication is also important as a tool of socialization and education experienced by an individual to bring him to a person having knowledge of the intricacies of social media. This study was conducted to find out the use and usage pattern of social media among parents of University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The research method used in this study was a "semi-structural" interview. The data were analysed using thematic method. The results of the analysis found that some categories of social site use among parents are for the purpose of keeping up with current developments; connect with family members, to get information, entertainment, motivation and others. The finding found that Facebook's good and bad. In the context of relationship with children, some respondent admit that social media has the potential to be platform to monitor children activities.

Self-care and stress management for educators in public universities

The role of educators in public university is more than teaching in the classroom. An educator is responsible for teaching students and contributes to their learning development. In fulfilling the job responsibilities, many educators often ignore the practice of self-care and stress management. The lack of awareness to take care of the emotional aspects can lead to high levels of stress that affect educators' health and well-being, causing burnout, lack of engagement, job dissatisfaction, and poor performance. Having a good self-care and effective stress management may result in an excellent work performance and increases motivation in teaching and learning. Educators need to understand the stress phenomenon including the causes and effects as well as the coping strategy.

The Impacts of Viral Video through Whatsapp among Adolecense in Penang, Malaysia

WhatsApp was launched in 2009 as the most popular messaging app that owned more than 600 million users worldwide. The statistic in Social Bakers indicates the growth of WhatsApp users in Malaysia is increased 334 by week and 1225 by month. Being alert towards the nature of social media sites becomes important because not all the contents of WhatsApp produce a good context for children and adolescents. Some of the potential problems of WhatsApp are cyberbullying, sexting, and vulnerability of improper contents. Even though, the outstanding advantage of WhatsApp is included the ease of communication; however WhatsApp also have the possibilities to demolish an individual's or organization's status, and create a sense of depression to the public. This study was conducted to investigate the types of viral videos that spread among adolescents in Penang as well as to explore the impacts of viral videos through WhatsApp. Participants of the study made up of nine adolescents aged between 15 to 19 years old from Penang, Malaysia. The methodology of this research is a qualitative method by using in-depth interviews. The findings showed that there are six types of viral videos that spread among adolescents involved in this study. Meanwhile, both negative and positive has been identified as impacts of viral videos in this study.

The effect of addictive social media use among teenagers

Social media addiction can be viewed as one form of Internet addiction, where individuals exhibit a compulsion to use social media to excess. Individuals with social media addiction are often overly concerned about social media and are driven by an uncontrollable urge to log on to and use social media. This paper will discuss about the effect of addictive social media use among teenagers. In addition, matters relating to social media use among teenagers will also be discussed, such as the factors and impact of social media addiction. This is necessary because all parties, especially parents, need to play their role so that this problem becomes worse.
