LiFi-IoT offers a possibility to deploy high speed (∼1 Gbps) wireless data for future network access optical wireless communication (UOWC). Result shows that, the LED threshold current of 16 mA corresponds to a voltage of 0.6 V. At the injection current of 30 mA, the LED has an output optical power of 18 mW for data transmission to be carried out under the optical communication environment based on Line of Sight (LoS). -
PublicationPrediction of soil macronutrient (nitrate and phosphorus) using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and machine learning( 2020-01-08)
;Laili A.R. ; ; ;Laili M.H. ;Amirul M.S. ; ;Ismail M.N.M.Determination of basic soil macronutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) that dissolve from organic matter (OM) prior to the plantation of fruit and vegetable corps is one of the important process of soil preparation towards precision farming. In this paper comparative analysis is performed for detection algorithm on OM, (N) and (P) sample using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) spectrometer in reflective mode with an effective range of 900nm to 1700nm. In pre-processing we execute data dimension reduction by combining multiple feature selection such as data normalization, permutation feature importance, principle component analysis, fisher linear discriminant and filter-based feature selection. Pre-processing able to reduce 50% data dimension. For prediction model development we combine with multiple classification algorithm such as multiclass decision jungle, decision forest, logistic regression and neural network to come out with highest accuracy of N and P detection. We conclude that near infrared spectroscopy combines with feature selection and multiclass classification able to determine nitrogen and phosphorus. -
PublicationEstimation of Harumanis (Mangifera indica L.) Sweetness using Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy( 2020-03-20)
;Sabri, Mohd Shafiq Amirul ; ; ; ; ;Laili M.H. ;Laili A.R.Ismail M.N.M.Harumanis mango quality demanded by consumers is depending on the sweetness level of the fruit. The sweetness is evaluated by brix percentage using refractometer as a representative factor correlated with near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy spectral absorbance. NIR spectroscopy method of sampling have been tested to overcome the time consuming, complex chemical analysis more importantly invasive sampling methods in order to determine the sugar content in mangoes. Spectral absorbance data from range 941 nm to 1685 nm of mango skin is correlated with Brix reading then tested through five pre-processing techniques. Data calibration and prediction of both data is evaluated using Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR) model. In the final analysis, Unit vector normalization (UVN) technique has achieved as a best pre-processing technique for predicting results, with the coefficient of determination (R2) values of 0.9836 and root mean square error (RMSE) values of 0.3131. Overall, the correlation of NIRS absorbance data and Brix data can be obtained using PLSR model with UVN pre-processing technique. Henceforth, we can conclude that the NIRS method of sampling can be used to identify sugar content in Harumanis mango by using time saving, non-invasive and less laborious method of sampling. -
PublicationTwo dimensional (2D) OCDMA encoder-decoder for various industrial application( 2021-12)
; ; ;A A M Ismail ;ND Keraf ;R Matem ; ; ;Mohd Shafiq Amirul ;Future telecommunication systems and networks are expected to provide a variety of integrated broadband services to the customers. There has been a tremendous interest in applying Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) techniques to fiber optic communication systems. This technique is one of the multiple access schemes that is becoming popular because of the flexibility in the allocation of channels, ability to operate asynchronously, enhanced privacy and increased capacity in bursty networks. This project is focusing on designing 2D OCDMA system with the hardware implementation of design using FPGA. The coding techniques in OCDMA are time versus wavelength and amplitude versus phase. 2D OCDMA coding incorporates both wavelength selection and time distribution. The data bit would be encoded as consecutive chips with various wavelengths. The code architecture seeks to produce codes with high autocorrelation and low cross-correlation properties. Code length is an essential aspect of code and device architecture for coding characteristics. The hardware implementation of the system is designed by using FPGA De1-SoC. The FPGA have the abilities to enhance the transmission of data to the receiver in a short period of time. The performance of 2D OCDMA system is expected to surpass 1D OCDMA system in terms of BER and the number of simultaneous users that can be supported. The system encoder and decoder were designed using optical switch, splitter, combiner and modulator. The performance of 2D OCDMA system in terms of time spreading and wavelength spreading is also compared which shown a huge difference in the results. The best performance of the system is when the number of wavelength (M) is fixed to 18 and the number of times spreading (N) is 31 which can support 350 more simultaneous users.2 15 -

;Aseri N.S.M. ; ; ; ; ; ;Shapiai M.I.HVAC system is a necessary component of environment to maintain the temperature and humidity to be kept at certain levels by using air taken from outside to ensure the indoor comfort. The purpose of the study is to reduce the electricity energy usage and cost from air conditioning by using smart embedded-analytics sensors to provide the automatic thermal control in an area. In this study, we used sensors such as temperature and humidity sensors to detect and read the currently temperature and humidity of an area monitored by a microcontroller. The cloud-based system and the sensors are connected via wifi in the presence of MQTT protocol. The protocol enables publish and subscribe method which provide the communication between sensors, cloud-based system and HVAC system. This communication can serve thermal control automatically thus resulting the optimize usage of energy from air conditioning according to the external environment temperature and humidity. The control of the temperature and humidity from air conditioning can be designed through the programming embedded in the microcontroller. The monitoring result can be displayed from the control panel to ensure how the system works.31 2 -
PublicationImprovement of high power received using new receiver technique in free space optical communication( 2024-02-08)
;Rahman A.K. ;Thai S.A.K. ; ; ;Weather conditions such as precipitation, snowfall, scintillation, haze, and others can have a significant impact on the efficiency of a free-space optical communication device. The quality of the received signal must be maximized while the noise level is minimized, making the construction of a suitable receiver of paramount importance. In this paper, a novel receiver design based on the double transmission balance receiver is suggested (DTBR). It will evaluate its capabilities by contrasting them with those of a standard amplitude-shift-keying (ASK) transceiver operating in an on-off-keying mode. The analysis of the measured data in terms of received power and bit error rate is anticipated to lead to enhancements in signal power transmission quality (BER). From the results, we can conclude that conventional ASK-OOK can be improved upon by about 3dBm in terms of minimal power. DTBR with the ability to handle higher attenuation up to 16 dB/km can improve received power by 7%.12 1 -

PublicationPerformance analysis of coherent source SAC OCDMA in free space optical communication systems( 2023)
;Ahmed M. Alhassan ;Eithar Issam ; ; ;Syed Mohammad Ammar ;In this paper, we investigate the performance of spectral amplitude coding optical code division multiple access (SAC OCDMA) systems under the effect of beat noise and turbulence. Three different multi-laser source configurations are considered in this analysis: shared multi-laser, separate multi-laser, and carefully controlled center frequency separate multi-laser. We demonstrate through Monte Carlo simulation that the gamma–gamma probability density function (pdf) cannot adequately approximate the measured intensity of overlapping lasers and that an empirical pdf is required. Results also show it is possible to achieve error-free transmission at a symmetrical data rate of 10 Gbps for all active users when only beat noise is taken into account by precisely controlling the center frequencies. However, only 30% of the active users can be supported when both beat noise and turbulence are considered.18 1 -

;Rahman A.K. ;Thai S.A.K. ; ; ;Rain attenuation is significantly affecting the FSO performance of a free-space optical communication system. Kuching/Samarahan region is situated in Malaysia state which is under tropical climate zone. The rain distribution is recorded high due to having rain season year-round. It worst when turn to monsoon season where the precipitation rate is expected high and dense. It is crucial to design the effect FSO system to ensure good quality transmission beam signal. This paper is focus on Kuching/Samarahan zone as the preliminary result to investigate the rain pattern and effect over FSO propagation. The investigation it focuses on that region is due to development that area to implement fully digital economy which need supported by high speed and capacity data that can be produced by optical technology. Therefore, FSO technology can perform this task. The rain data is collected from Malaysia Meteorology Department (Met Malaysia) which for three years 2017, 1018 and 2019. The performance will measure the effect of scattering coefficient, rain attenuation and geometrical loss. It is expected heavy rain will contribute the great impact over FSO link.26 1
