    Adaptation of social mediated crisis communication model: a systematic review

    The social media crisis communication model (SMCC) is a new framework that describes the current landscape and environment for crisis communication. Social mediated crisis communication refers to the dissemination of direct and indirect information on traditional media and social media channels involving various types of users, including influential media, social media followers and social media inactive. Therefore, this article aims to systematically review on adaptation social mediated crisis communication model. This research is based on past research using a systematic survey approach. 4 out of 9 articles were identified for analytical purposes in line with the themes observed; adaptation social mediated crisis communication.

    Privacy and safety of social media applications: The users awareness among students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia
    The development of social media applications has brought many changes and influences to the public in terms of communication and the use of communication technology. The existence of social media applications has made it easier for users to communicate with each other. Social media makes it easy for users to access information in their daily lives and it also has a positive and negative effect on their users especially to the university students. However, from a security and privacy standpoint, this will affect users because of their information and activities accessible through the social networks by irresponsible individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the types of personal information shared by social media users and to measure the level of consumer awareness of privacy and security among students at University Malaysia Perlis. This study used quantitative method which is a questionnaire via google form which was answered by 218 students from University Malaysia Perlis. Data obtained were analysed using Statistical Package for Science for Windows Version 26 (SPSS) software. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the type of personal information shared and the level of awareness about privacy and safety among students. This study suggested that the there is a need to increase the level of awareness of the internet privacy and security among students.

    Disaster information seeking during disaster: a survey on how public use National Disaster Management Agency Malaysia’s (NADMA) social media

    Social media tools provide the best opportunities to facilitate information dissemination to the public and access them during the disaster. During a disaster, the public keep seeking valuable information on social media from trusted sources to coordinate their actions. This paper presents a study that discovers how the public uses NADMA's social media to access information during a disaster. Hence, this study focuses on National Disaster Management Agency Malaysia (NADMA) regarding disaster situations on social media. This study utilised a quantitative research approach through a simple sampling technique. Besides, an online questionnaire survey was conducted, and 501 respondents were from the public on social media who follow the NADMA's official social media. The term of public’s choice of social media and agencies technical were described. Otherwise, the frequency of the public seeking disaster information on social media was analysed. Types of information seeking by the public on social media were also explored. The results could guide the aspect of information management by disaster management teams on social media during disasters.

    The level of knowledge, attitude and practice of healthy lifestyle among the university students in Kedah/Perlis

    This study was conducted to enquire the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of healthy lifestyles among students in Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) in Kedah and Perlis particularly at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Perlis branch and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Data were collected from 422 students consists of 272 students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 87 students of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and 63 students of the University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Perlis branch using a questionnaire that was adapted from Burton (1999 ). In general, the study shows that students in the UniMAP, UUM and UiTM possessed an adequate level of knowledge about healthy lifestyle. In addition, respondents also have a positive attitude towards the practice of healthy lifestyle.

    The influence of YouTubers among teenagers: A study in Johore, Malaysia
    These days, teenagers are brought up in a time of smartphones and do not recall a period before social media. They are viewed as good examples and are regularly perceived in the streets by their fans. In any case, in spite of being well known online, outside the YouTube community they are simply an average individual that could be the person living nearby. Parents regularly do not think about the online behavior of their children and the YouTubers they embrace. The aim of this research is to give an overview of the current YouTube community, including what types of YouTubers will attract teenagers and what influence of YouTubers among teenagers in Johor Bahru, Johor. This study is qualitative research that uses indepth interviews to collect data. Participants for this study consists of Malaysia teenagers specifically from Johor Bahru. There are nine participants aged between 16 to 20 years old. They are selected based on a multiracial concept which is Malay, Indian and Chinese. The finding shows that there are four types of YouTubers that attract teenagers in Johor Bahru, Johor. Meanwhile, finding from this research also shows that there are six main influences of YouTubers among teenagers in Johor Bahru, Johor which consist of positive and negative influences.

    The effect of addictive social media use among teenagers
    Social media addiction can be viewed as one form of Internet addiction, where individuals exhibit a compulsion to use social media to excess. Individuals with social media addiction are often overly concerned about social media and are driven by an uncontrollable urge to log on to and use social media. This paper will discuss about the effect of addictive social media use among teenagers. In addition, matters relating to social media use among teenagers will also be discussed, such as the factors and impact of social media addiction. This is necessary because all parties, especially parents, need to play their role so that this problem becomes worse.

    Comparative analysis of public officers’ corruption framing in newspapers

    This research was conducted to examine and compare the prevalence of public officials’ corruption frames in the online version among three popular Nigerian newspapers. Individual news article on public officials’ corruption was the unit of analysis while the reliability coefficients calculated using Holsti’s formula resulted to 90.0%. This study discovered that in the framing of 2016 public official corruption issues, the newspapers varied significantly with p=0.002 and p=0.000 respectively on corruption frames. However, the study, anchored on framing theory, identified the economic consequence frames, the responsibility attributes, and the treatment frames in the corruption issues. Further results revealed that the economic consequence frame identified the financial losses with the total percentage of 63.8%. The Nigerian government was framed as having highest responsibility for corruption eradication with the total percentage of 79.6%. Therefore, the responsible government was recommended for treatment of corruption in Nigeria with the total percentage of 82.2%. While this study is focusing on the aspect of media frames, future research can attempt to explore the area of audience frames which is not covered in this study.
