Effective managing process innovation of the new product development is important. The importance of the process innovation lies in the fact that effective implementing process innovation for new product development activities can contribute directly to the success of a new product. Besides able to improve organization performance. Several literature found the success rate of the new product continue failing at an alarming rate. An example most recent studies show new product success rate decline to 60% for UK, 59% for US, 60% for Japan and 49% for Spain. In view of that, competence in implementing process innovation for product development in organization is critical. Unfortunately, research and framework-development in this area has been limited. In any organization a systematic framework is crucial to facilitate understanding and guiding the process innovation for product development implementation especially for SMEs. This study will investigate the characteristics of the process innovation frameworks proposed by past studies to provide an understanding on the similarities and differences between all the frameworks. It is author hoped the result of the investigations can guide the author towards further development of a new framework for process innovation implementation, which is well adapted to the needs and fulfill the requirement of SMEs.
