Breast surface variation phase map analysis with digital fringe projection

Breast carcinoma has become one of the most frequently diagnosed life threatening cancer among women. Early detection of breast cancer is highly essential with the aid of non-contact imaging modalities. Recently, non-contact breast imaging methods based on fringe projection has been developed for breast surface change inspection. In this work, a non-contact digital fringe projection imaging modality that utilizes phase shifting fringe patterns for identifying surface changes has been developed for investigating breast surface changes caused by the presence of tumors. A medical grade prosthetic breast was used as the experimental subject and subjugated to breast changes through the enlargement of a round shaped silicon catheter as a tumor. The fringes were projected onto the breast surface based on the three steps phase shift fringe projection. The fringe patterns consisted of a large fringe width to enable the breast image to be confined in fewer fringe patterns. A resulting phase map was obtained where pixel coordinate marking was conducted on the phase map breast image. Each of the pixel’s coordinate was compared to identify the location of the surface changes. A range of 2-9 pixel coordinate shifts from the 0.5 – 2 cm tumor growth were obtained from the results which demonstrated the capability of using phase map analysis from digital fringe projection in identifying surface changes of the women’s breast.

High power LED heat dissipation analysis via copper diamond slug

The emergence of high power light emitting diode as a novel electronic based light source is due to its vast advantage in terms of optical efficacy, low power consumption and enhanced life time. However, the performances of the LEDs are dependent on the junction temperature as it is inherited high heat production. Hence, proper evaluation of the junction temperature is very significant. In this paper, the heat dissipation of single chip high power LED attached to copper diamond based cylindrical heat slug was scrutinized through simulation. The heat dissipation was characterized in terms of junction temperature. In addition, the stress of the LED chip is evaluated with varied input power. Ansys version 11 was used for the simulation. The simulated results reveal that at input power of 1 W, the max junction temperature of the LED is 114.69°C.

Reliability comparison between solder and solderless flip chip interconnection in terms of high temperature storage

Flip chip (FC) has been used to replace wire bond due to its better performance. The 1st interconnection in FC plays an important role in terms of reliability study. Au/Cu stud bump capped with Sn tends to have Kirkendall void in the joint which can cause open circuit. This paper focuses on depth analysis on solderless chip bumping by using only Cu stud bump in the chip on chip (CoC) ball grid array (BGA) package. High temperature storage 150 °C has been applied on package and the result was compared with those the use of Au stud bump capped with Sn. The result shows that Cu stud bump has a better reliability in term of electrical resistance compared with Au stud bump capped with Sn. Therefore, solderless chip bumping has the potential to replace Au stud bump capped with Sn for FC BGA package.

Digital fringe projection for hand surface coordinate variation analysis caused by osteoarthritis

Hand osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis which impact millions of people worldwide. The disabling problem occurs when the protective cartilage on the boundaries of bones wear off over time. Currently, in order to identify hand osteoarthritis, special instruments namely X-ray scanning and MRI are used for the detection but it also has its limitations such as radiation exposure and can be quite costly. In this work, an optical metrology system based on digital fringe projection which comprises of an LCD projector, CCD camera and a personal computer has been developed to anticipate abnormal growth or deformation on the joints of the hand which are common symptoms of osteoarthritis. The main concept of this optical metrology system is to apply structured light as imaging source for surface change detection. The imaging source utilizes fringe patterns generated by C++ programming and is shifted by 3 phase shifts based on the 3 steps 2 shifts method. Phase wrapping technique and analysis were applied in order to detect the deformation of live subjects. The result has demonstrated a successful method of hand deformation detection based on the pixel tracking differences of a normal and deformed state.

FSS microchannel fluid flow profile investigation at high and low Re number

The fundamental understanding of dynamic fluid flow behavior in different geometry channel is crucial due to transport phenomena influence on the key design and process control of the microfluidic systems. Recently, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology has received priority to fully understand the performance of the microfluidic design. In this paper, simulation of liquid flow over forward facing step (FFS) microchannel has been explored using CFD-Ansys software. This work focused on velocity profiles for low and high Reynolds (Re) numbers. Different step heights were used as main parameter. The results revealed a parabolic profile across the x-axis channel. Besides that, recirculation zone is detected near the step for Re=500. An increase for step height value contributed to higher fluid flow velocity.

Digital fringe projection system for round shaped breast tumor detection

The digital fringe projection has been widely used in the field of surface imaging however its application in the field of body imaging especially for human breasts is still quite limited. Currently, the common imaging modality for breast tumor diagnoses are breast ultrasound and mammogram. There are advantages and limitations of using the mammogram and ultrasound in terms of the procedure of the process and the non-invasive nature of the procedure. In this work, an automated digital fringe projection system is developed to execute the imaging of surface changes of a helical shaped phantom breast. The fringe projection setup utilizes a computer, LCD projector, and a CCD camera. The tumor used was round-shaped with a diameter size of 1.5 and 2 cm. The fringe pattern was projected through the three-step phase shift where a resulting phase map was obtained. Results demonstrated that the system was able to identify an average pixel shift of five and ten on the breast surface caused by the presence of the round breast tumors.

Critical analysis of stability and performance of organometal halide perovskite solar cells via various fabrication method (Review)

Organometal halide perovskite solar cells (Omh-PSCs) have attracted attention due to its unique electrical and optical properties. Ideally, the Omh-PSCs should remain free from degradation under normal operating conditions for several years, preferably tens of years. In order to produce high power conversion efficiency with low potential of degradation, different fabrication methods have been developed. The reported stability of perovskite films can vary significantly and reported to decay substantially up to 20% of its original performance. A thorough understanding of fabrication process upon the stability of the device is regarded as crucial to pave the way for future endeavors. This review summarized and highlighted the recent research of fabrication methods that gave an impact to the stability of perovskite devices.
