The behaviours of steel fiber as main reinfocement in high performance slurry infiltrated fiber reinforced concrete

Concrete is a structure that very weak in tension and need additional material to enhance their structural capacity. In 18thcentury, concrete have been recognized as structure that very weak in tension [. Thus, concrete need additional supporting material that can improve the tension capacity. Because of the steel is very good in tension, the steel bar was embedded in concrete at the tensile stress area to obtain the full capacity of the steel bar as reinforcement.

Experimental Investigation on the Effectiveness of Truss-Shaped Punching Shear Reinforcement in Flat Slab

The use of reinforced concrete flat slabs in building construction increases the floor-to-floor clearance, expedites site operations, and offers aesthetically rewarding features. However, punching shear failure in a flat slab is brittle in nature and can be potentially catastrophic. Many studies have been conducted to improve the punching shear capacity of flat slabs but some of the proposed punching shear reinforcements were complicated and costly. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a simple and cost-effective; truss-shaped punching shear reinforcement embedded in a 1200 mm × 1200 mm × 175 mm thick flat slab specimen. Three types of truss-shaped punching shear reinforcements were prepared. All specimens were supported at the edges and subjected to gravity load tests. The results showed that the introduction of truss-shaped punching shear reinforcement increased the punching shear capacity in the range of 7.71% to 21.47%. The maximum deflection of these specimens exhibited an insignificant increase compared to the control specimen, suggesting that punching failure governed the ultimate behavior. The additional strength offered by truss-shaped punching shear reinforcement makes flat slabs as a construction material more appealing because they allow them to withstand higher design loads.

Green lean practices towards increasing operation value of manufacturing company

Nowadays, manufacturing industries are rapidly developing. However the constraints faced by today's producers are how to produce their products quickly through low costs while at the same time, the reduction of waste disposal in the environment. The high waste of time in the manufacturing industry is often attributed to the wastage that occurred in the company’s operations. Lean manufacturing is linked for improving the standard working. It is one of the production strategies that drive the industry towards a more efficient production of goods and services. Meanwhile, green manufacturing has been adopted as a requirement to achieve a minimal negative impact on the environment. The green lean is a concept to make sure system more efficient, reduce unwanted product releases and minimize the environmental impact. So, the main objective of this research is to reduce cycle time in manufacturing company by adopting green lean elements. This research focuses on furniture manufacturing and conducted a structural interview question, observation and time study method. To refine those time operation problems, the company had implemented the new green lean practices into the operation department. The results after implement these methods totally show an improved progress. The paper would help the manufacturer to organize and improve their company performance. In conclusion, this research is about to identify and reduce the time waste to improve the operation value of the manufacturing company while at the same time it would reduce the environmental impact in future.

Physical and mechanical properties of coconut shell concrete (CSC)

The use of waste products as partial replacement for the material in concrete can help to reduce the environmental and economic problem. Coconut shell (CS) is one of the agricultural waste that suitable to use as and coarse aggregates replacement due availability of CS which not only can help to decrease the cost of the concrete and reduce the environmental problem, it also can maintain the properties of the concrete. In this study, the compressive strength of the concrete has been chosen to be investigated. Three different types concrete cube have been casted in this study; 0, 10%, 15%, 20% of CS to replace for coarse aggregates. The size of the cube samples to be casted is 100 x 100 x 100 mm and were cured for 7 and 28 days. The study shows that the optimum percentage for CS concrete is 10% due to in this percentage of replacement, it gives the highest compressive strength value compare to other percentage at 28 days.

Physical behaviours of maximum loading and cracking for slurry infiltrated fibre reinforced concrete

Concrete prisms are being test with flexural testing by different percentage volume of steel fibres. The total number of 24 prisms were made which contain 3 %, 6 % and 9 % of steel fibres respectively. This only consist experimental results. Specimens used in this study using a prism mold of 100 mm x 100 mm x 500 mm. Eighteen prisms will be added with a layer of 10 mm of steel fibre using slurry method. All of the samples were tested using flexural testing to determine the maximum loading. The highlight scope of this research is to evaluate the physical behavior of Slurry Infiltrated Fibre Reinforced Concrete in term of maximum load and cracking pattern. The results of the study were also compared with concrete without steel fibres. However, the workability of the concrete decreased as the number of steels fibre increase. The maximum load was obtained by the lowest percentage of steel fibre (3%).

Improving the warehouse operation by implementing lean warehousing

The growing interest of customers towards online shopping have given a good impact to the e-commerce platform nowadays especially during this pandemic which have a strict limitation of movement among citizen in Malaysia. However, some issue regarding the courier services have arisen regarding the poor service quality that customers received recently and some issue related to warehouse operation arises in certain situation such as product delay, product defects, and short space for inventory placement which create lower productivity and service performance. In order to overcome this situation, this study identified the implementation of lean warehousing in improving service productivity performance in courier company. This research will be focusing on the courier services company that available in Malaysia Delivery Express X is selected as it is one of the courier services that frequently used by customers as a platform to delivers their parcels. This research been conducted using qualitative method which the data been collected by interviewing the respondent and the data gathered is analyzed using Arena Simulation Software. The finding shows what is the best alternative used to improve the service productivity performance of courier service. From this research, the courier service industry can make use of the finding for future purposes and future researcher can explore more about the lean warehousing in courier service industry. Its shows the reduction of time from the research is 8.2% improvement.

Physical properties of Dolomite fines as partially replacement of cement

Since the cost of cement increases and the pollution to environment due to greenhouse effect are becoming more serious year by year, thus, dolomite fines subjected to replace the cement in concrete mix as it has lower cost compared to cement and it is obtain directly from the Earth ground without any manufactured process. Dolomite fines also shows almost similar physical and chemical properties as cement. The various replacement of cement with dolomite fines carried out in this study is 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 25%. The grade of concrete sample designed to be 30. The properties of concrete sample in terms of physical characteristics; slump, density and water absorption for various percentage replacement are determined in this study. In this study, it shows the dolomite fines are lightweight aggregate compared to the cement and the water absorption of is lower compare to that of the control concrete.

Awareness of the Seismic Effect on Existing High-rise Building in Georgetown Penang

Abstract A seismic event is unpredictable and may occur worldwide depending on the movement of the fault line. The impact of this phenomenon on society, structures, sources and surroundings is significant to be investigated. Thus, this study aims to investigate the seismic awareness level and input information among Malaysians. Several far-field seismic activities in Malaysia have triggered some high-rise buildings, including residential and commercial ones. Due to this situation, the occupants started to worry about their safety living in high-rise buildings designed without seismic considerations. The most important initial step is to investigate the awareness level among the occupants. A survey has been conducted in Georgetown, Pulau Pinang area involving 208 respondents. Findings indicate the respondents have limited experience with seismic events in Malaysia and were never exposed to seismic information. Less than 50% declared to have adequate knowledge about seismic. Only 31.25% of the respondents were exposed to the seismic information. Respondents agree that Malaysia should apply a seismic code of practice for all construction buildings. Most respondents believe that preparation for upcoming seismic activities is still insufficient, and all new buildings should have seismic safety certificates in the future for seismic resistance.

Implementation of lean techniques towards improving service quality in a public healthcare using ARENA simulation

The purpose of this research is to simulate the process flow of public healthcare and evaluate the improvement of process flow using ARENA simulation. Lean is a method for process improvement and it can be applied to any process including healthcare sector. The previous study has integrated lean methodology for improving the patient flow by identifying root causes of patient flow problems and proposing a lean patient flow process. Therefore, this study attempts to measure the operation process flow in public healthcare and create an improvement operation process flow simulation model in order to improve the service quality. This study employed qualitative research method and the data collection method was used to observe and face to face interview method. Data were analyzed using the ARENA simulation. The comparison of output from the simulation improvement model and the output from the current model been analyzed to get the differences. According to the result, it can be seen the performance has improved by improving the process flow, reduce the distance, reduce the time and increase the number of patients. All the objectives of this research been achieved. In addition, the takt time and the cycle time of improvement layout has reduced by 12.04% compared with current layout. From the results of the simulation, the improvement layout proved to get the best performance compared to the current layout. Using the improvement layout will help the case study to improve their operational efficiency and will help the process flow of patent become smooth in order to improve the process flow of healthcare in Malaysia toward improving the service quality using lean technique.

The Behavior of Non-Destructive Test for Different Grade of Concrete

Rebound hammer tests are generally preferred as a non-destructive testing method as compared to destructive testing methods such as compression tests. In this study, a general series of rebound hammer tests and destructive tests were carried on in a heavy concrete laboratory. A set of concrete cubes measuring 100 x 100 x 100 mm were cast and subjected to water curing for 7, 14 and 28 days to obtain the cube strength and rebound number. Three grades of concrete, namely M20, M25 and M30 were used in this experiment. At 28 days, the minimum target strength should be 30 MPa. The rebound hammer tests were conducted before the compression tests. The data obtained for each test was evaluated and tabulated in the findings of this study. It was found that the variation between predicted strength and experimental strength for the rebound hammer test was 0.18%. This indicates that the rebound hammer test is able to predict strength with acceptable accuracy.
