Improving the warehouse operation by implementing lean warehousing

The growing interest of customers towards online shopping have given a good impact to the e-commerce platform nowadays especially during this pandemic which have a strict limitation of movement among citizen in Malaysia. However, some issue regarding the courier services have arisen regarding the poor service quality that customers received recently and some issue related to warehouse operation arises in certain situation such as product delay, product defects, and short space for inventory placement which create lower productivity and service performance. In order to overcome this situation, this study identified the implementation of lean warehousing in improving service productivity performance in courier company. This research will be focusing on the courier services company that available in Malaysia Delivery Express X is selected as it is one of the courier services that frequently used by customers as a platform to delivers their parcels. This research been conducted using qualitative method which the data been collected by interviewing the respondent and the data gathered is analyzed using Arena Simulation Software. The finding shows what is the best alternative used to improve the service productivity performance of courier service. From this research, the courier service industry can make use of the finding for future purposes and future researcher can explore more about the lean warehousing in courier service industry. Its shows the reduction of time from the research is 8.2% improvement.

Innovative in 3D printing: Design and simulation an innovative beverage cup towards green environment using SOLIDWORKS

Recently, the acceleration and popularization of beverages in the catering trade are rising. Since the increase in the number of beverages, the use of single-used products is increasing. Gradually, plastic waste or plastic pollution had become a sparked issue and discussion around the world. 3D printing technology and simulation had discussed and utilized in this research. 3D printing technology and simulation often provide beneficial in innovative and improving the existing product. 3D printing technology usually applied in the design, manufacture, and engineering industries. This research aims to create and simulate an innovative beverage cup that can improve the green-environment by using SOLIDWORKS software. Before started design, data collection and idea forming had progress. Observation had used to observe and monitor the existing product. In this research, SOLIDWORKS used as the main CAD software to structure and sketch the 3D model or virtual prototype as well as simulate the 3D model that had designed. For the simulation part, finite element analysis (FEA) was applied, which is drop test analysis to evaluate and estimate the stress, displacement, and strain analysis of the virtual prototype. To evaluate the prototype’s durability, the drop test analysis tested by dropping from 4 meter height and 9.81 m/s2 in gravity. In the end, an actual prototype had fabricated. The result shows the output of this research assist to improve the design towards green environment. The finding of this research concerns the comparison between the existing products and the new actual prototype within the design, function, and green-environment.

Implementation of lean techniques towards improving service quality in a public healthcare using ARENA simulation

The purpose of this research is to simulate the process flow of public healthcare and evaluate the improvement of process flow using ARENA simulation. Lean is a method for process improvement and it can be applied to any process including healthcare sector. The previous study has integrated lean methodology for improving the patient flow by identifying root causes of patient flow problems and proposing a lean patient flow process. Therefore, this study attempts to measure the operation process flow in public healthcare and create an improvement operation process flow simulation model in order to improve the service quality. This study employed qualitative research method and the data collection method was used to observe and face to face interview method. Data were analyzed using the ARENA simulation. The comparison of output from the simulation improvement model and the output from the current model been analyzed to get the differences. According to the result, it can be seen the performance has improved by improving the process flow, reduce the distance, reduce the time and increase the number of patients. All the objectives of this research been achieved. In addition, the takt time and the cycle time of improvement layout has reduced by 12.04% compared with current layout. From the results of the simulation, the improvement layout proved to get the best performance compared to the current layout. Using the improvement layout will help the case study to improve their operational efficiency and will help the process flow of patent become smooth in order to improve the process flow of healthcare in Malaysia toward improving the service quality using lean technique.

Effectiveness of workstation towards production performance in manufacturing company using ARENA simulation

Workstation arrangement is one of the factors that can give a significant impact on the company’s performance. Poor implementation of the workstation can lead to an ineffective and inefficient work system which may limit the rate of productivity, poor utilization of resources, high rate of rejection, and many more. For the company of this study, which is XYZ Furniture Sdn Bhd, they face limited production over a certain period by using existing machines which can make the production rate become inefficient. Thus, this study is conducted to solve the problem by proposing several solutions to the company. Based on the findings obtained from this method, the researchers found that there are some shortcomings in the workstation layout that has been used in the factory that causes them to be unable to maximize daily production and cause them losses due to having to work overtime to ensure their daily targets are achieved. The use of this ARENA simulation method is important because this application can create an overview of the movement of a process with more organized and accurate simulation results. Thus, this study is conducted to solve the problem by proposing several solutions to the company. Based on the result, there was a positive increase of 34 units of wood pieces equivalent to 7.08%. This improvement is very good and gives a considerable impact on the company and can help the company in growing its business in the future.

Green lean practices towards increasing operation value of manufacturing company

Nowadays, manufacturing industries are rapidly developing. However the constraints faced by today's producers are how to produce their products quickly through low costs while at the same time, the reduction of waste disposal in the environment. The high waste of time in the manufacturing industry is often attributed to the wastage that occurred in the company’s operations. Lean manufacturing is linked for improving the standard working. It is one of the production strategies that drive the industry towards a more efficient production of goods and services. Meanwhile, green manufacturing has been adopted as a requirement to achieve a minimal negative impact on the environment. The green lean is a concept to make sure system more efficient, reduce unwanted product releases and minimize the environmental impact. So, the main objective of this research is to reduce cycle time in manufacturing company by adopting green lean elements. This research focuses on furniture manufacturing and conducted a structural interview question, observation and time study method. To refine those time operation problems, the company had implemented the new green lean practices into the operation department. The results after implement these methods totally show an improved progress. The paper would help the manufacturer to organize and improve their company performance. In conclusion, this research is about to identify and reduce the time waste to improve the operation value of the manufacturing company while at the same time it would reduce the environmental impact in future.
