Direct torque control of induction motor with different energy storage for electrical vehicle (EV) application

Energy demand worldwide is rising at an unprecedented pace. This has already shown its impact on the depletion of energy sources and environmental issues (global warming and the weakening of the ozone layer). This growing pattern of energy insufficiency will, of course, intensify in the future. Referring to the literature, significant energy savings can be achieved by controlling the speed of the electric motor system using variable frequency drives (VFDs). Efficient control of induction motor drives provides an excellent opportunity for energy savings. As a result, research into the optimal operation of induction motor drives is escalating and mainly focuses on the Direct Torque Control (DTC) control technique on improving the dynamic operation of torque control. However, the study on the type of energies on improving the dynamic response is least reported. This paper will study the effect of different energy supplies on the dynamic response of torque performance. The standard DC battery and supercapacitor will be used to energize the induction motor through the three-phase inverter and controlled with the DTC control scheme. The results are validated through MATLAB Simulink and it shows the supercapacitor has the better dynamic response in torque response compared to the standard DC battery. The comparative results are presented in a proper mannered way.

The effect of amplitude modulation index on harmonic distortion in unipolar SHEPWM inverter

The appearance of low order odd harmonic in the AC power line can be mitigated by projecting a proper switching angle during the conversion of the inverter. The switching angles can be obtained by solving the numerical nonlinear equation using numerous solving techniques and algorithms. Several studies shows the value of harmonic significantly increase whenever the amplitude modulation decrease for the SPWM switching scheme of the inverter. However, this topic has not yet covered in the single-phase SHEPWM inverter. This paper is to study the effect of the amplitude modulation index towards the harmonic distortion in the SHEPWM switching technique. To solve the numerical equations, MATLAB code is used to produce the specific switching angles to drive the inverter by solving the numerical equations. The validation of results thru hardware implementation using EZDSPTMS320F28335 to produce the digital signal for controlling the inverter. The targeted low order harmonic to be eliminated are the 3rd, 5th and 7th and three four amplitude modulation indices will be compared and observed in term of total harmonic distortion. The THD results for amplitude modulations 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 are 17.50%, 15.10%, 13.30% and 10.63%.

Pulsed UV Integrated Infrared Dryer System for Orthosiphon Stamineus Herb.

The drying system is an important part for food and herbs preservation. Therefore, an effective drying system are needed to ensure the increase the shelf life of the food and herb without degrade its good nutrient and bioactive compound. In this study, Orthosiphon stamineus herb was used to dry using an Infrared dryer and combination of Pulsed UV light treatment + Infrared drying. Infrared drying involves transferring heat by radiation from a hot source to a lower-temperature substance that has to be heated or dried, meanwhile the pulsed UV light is a non-thermal treatment. The temperature of the heated element determines the peak wavelength of the radiation. The objective of this study is to design an infrared dryer system and analyze the quality of the dried herb. The Orthosiphon Stamineus have been dried using a 200W Infrared dryer system at 60°C. Total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were determined using the Folin- Ciocalteu method and the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity assay measured using a UV/VIS Spectrophotometer. A moisture analyzer was used to look at the changes in moisture content, and a colorimeter was used to look at the colour changes. The result showed that drying Orthosiphon stamineus by using an Infrared dryer and combination of Pulsed UV light treatment + Infrared drying under 60°C has significantly affected the herbal leaves quality in terms of moisture content, colour properties, Antioxidant capacity, and Total phenolic content.

Harmonic elimination simulation of seven level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter Based on Newton Raphson method

Multilevel inverters for high-power applications are arising as the new breed of power converter options. Usually, they combine the waveform of the staircase voltage (from many dc sources) that has reduced the harmonic content. The selective harmonic elimination (SHE) by using Newton-Raphson method is proposed to apply for 350 W infrared dyer system. The analysis covers the scope for multilevel inverter single-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB). The proposed SHE scheme is run using MATLAB/Simulink simulation. The results of these simulation is then compared to a 36 V output inverter hardware. The proposed SHE effectively removes the lowest-order harmonics and delivers a higher quality output waveform with a better harmonic profile.

Black Box Modelling of Infrared Drying System for Herbs Dehydration

This study focused on development of infrared dryer system for Orthosiphon Stamineus leaves drying application. In any food technology, the dryer is the key component for quality drying food and herbs etc. An oven is modified to produce high technology drying system. A mathematical model is developed based on time response characteristics of the system. A second order model is found to adequately represent the system as it gives best fit with better properties than the first order model with error between measured data and simulation data is 0.44. Validation procedures show that the derived model is indeed a good enough representation of drying system. The infrared dryer system is highly non-linear and exhibits varying model parameters. An identification system is introduced to estimate the parameters and determine mathematical model of the system. ARMAX of na = 2, nb = 1 and nc = 1 polynomial model show best fit to experimental response of PRBS input.

Investigation and Performance Analysis of DC-DC Boost Converter System

This paper presents the analysis of a closed loop DC-DC boost converter for renewable energy applications such as PV. Most of renewable energy resources produce DC voltage that implied with DC-DC converters to convert their input voltage into a higher or lower voltage level accordingly to their application. However, there are numerous types of devices or applications that used renewable energy. Thus, it means the evolution of using a closed loop boost converter system must occur. The closed-loop system DC-DC boost converter is used to step up the low-level DC voltage to a high level of DC voltage. By varying the input voltage, the performance of boost converter in terms of its output voltage can be obtained and analysed. Several studies were conducted and validated with hardware implementation. All the results are recorded and show that various levels of input voltage can be converted into a fixed value of output voltage by using this converter. To emphasise, the boost converter generated 73.33 V output when an input voltage of 12 V. Whereas this experiment is conducted to analyse the boost converter performance so that can consider if this converter is compatible with the IR dryer system.

Review Article: Voltage Balancing Method for Battery and Supercapacitor

This paper examines several existing voltage equalizers techniques for energy storage system, with a focusing on batteries and supercapacitors. Due satisfy the demands, energy storage cells are often coupled in series/parallel. However, divergence of voltage distributed among cells produces the problems of voltage imbalance that affecting the ageing of energy storage system and solved through equalizers. Several assessments from features of topologies in voltage balancing circuit supplied primarily based total on a few attentions’ just like the effectiveness in balance and components. Voltage balancing is essentially separated into two categories: passive and active equalizers. Therefore, this paper studied and reviewed several topologies from both equalizer types with the sample result to verify the topology performance.

Design Three Phase Inverter for Compressor Drive using Single-Phase AC Source

Inverters are commonly used in high power applications for induction motors, air conditioners, and ventilation fans. The use of an inverter can save electricity consumption and maximize consumption on the compressor. The compressor runs slowly at night, when there is little or no activity with the refrigerator. It uses just the correct amount of energy to keep the refrigerator at the right temperature. This is where the energy efficiency comes into play, and it may save you anywhere from 20% to 30% on your electric bill. The purpose of this project is to design a three-phase inverter for use on refrigerator compressors. The focus of this project is to generate and analyze the performance of a three-phase AC voltage that will be connected to the refrigerator compressor to produce a maximum voltage of 220 V that gets the current supply from the socket. In this project, a three-phase inverter is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. At the end of the project, a three-phase inverter successfully produced three-phase voltage and run for load.

Comparative investigations on different types of inductors in single-phase inverter

This article organized in two sections where it compares the performance of single-phase inverters using various types of inductors with differences modulation technique of pulse width modulation (PWM). Not all inductors perform the same function, even the inductance value is the same. The study will investigate the capability of each inductor on its performance to convert the unfiltered AC voltage into filtered sinusoidal AC voltage. The drum core and toroidal core inductors were used in this investigation. For both inductors, the performance will be analyzed based on Bipolar and Unipolar switching schemes in a single unit H-bridge circuit. The validation of results are through experimental assessment only and it will be evaluating the shape of sinusoidal AC voltage and the content of total harmonics distortion in the AC voltage for both inductors.
