    Effect of RTV coating on the electrical performance of porcelain insulator string under dry condition

    Pollution flashover is one of the primary reasons cause to power system failure in Malaysia. The presence of accumulation on the porcelain insulator surface reduces the electrical performance and also causes the failure of insulation in transmission and distribution lines. This research presents a study on the effect of Room Temperature Vulcanize (RTV) coating on the performances of a string porcelain insulator and their impact on environmental contamination. An attempt has been made to simulate the electric field distribution of 33 kV insulators using the finite element method (FEM). From the simulation results, the maximum electric field distribution is obtained at the pin insulator of a clean insulator, while the cap insulator indicated the minimum electric field. With the existence of the contamination layer, the electric field distribution of the porcelain surface results in a reduction trend.

    Development and Performance Analysis of the Rogowski coil sensor for Arcing Fault Measurement
    Arcing fault is an overvoltage that usually occurs in the power system network, and it is necessary to monitor this phenomenon in electrical equipment. This paper presents the Rogowski coil (RC) as an arcing fault sensor. Finite element method (FEM) software used for analysing the RC magnetic flux density with two types of RC with the different turns and size demonstrated. The sizing of RC based on the 240 mm2 cross-link polyethene (XLPE) 11 kV underground cable. The prototypes of the RC sensors were designed using Solidworks software and three-dimensional (3D) printer for fabrication purposes. The main objective of the experiment is to investigate the RC effect with high magnetic flux density by implementing in real measurement. An experimental setup for real arcing fault with various voltages (up to 15 kV) was conducted to verify the RC performance, such as sensitivity and bandwidth range. The result has shown that the bandwidth of RC 1 is higher than RC 2 in all measurement by 22.6%.

    Review on RTV silicone rubber coatings insulator for transmission lines

    Nowadays, the usage of RTV Silicone Rubber as Insulator coatings are increased due to its advantages to avoid pollution flashover of contaminated insulator. Besides, the coatings can reduce the maintenance cost and scheduled routine. This paper had introduced the advantage of RTV Silicone Rubber coatings on insulator, such as good adhesion, nominal thickness range and good hydrophobicity. There are three method of coatings application, such as brushing, spraying and dipping. Suitable method is used to specific insulator application. Meanwhile, this paper also explained about installation of coated insulator in the field.
