Many factors need to be considered in producing micro gear by means of injection moulding process including material selection, part and mould design as well as processing parameters. Inappropriate combination of these factors can cause numerous production problems such as occurring of defects, long lead time, much scrap and high production cost. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of different material for micro gear, gate types, size of gear as well as processing parameters on the multi quality characteristics of the micro gear. The simulation was conducted by integration of Taguchi L27 orthogonal array and principal component analysis. The result of main effect analysis exhibited that the optimal combination of factors that resulted in minimum sink index, volumetric shrinkage and deflection was A3B3C2D3E1F1G1H1I3. Meanwhile, from the ANOVA, gate type was found out to be the most significant factor in minimizing the multi quality characteristic of the simulated micro gear. The findings of this study should be benefited to the gear industry particularly in improving the quality of micro gear where the use of micro gear in microsystem is accelerating nowadays.

Chemical coating techniques to enhance the surface quality of 3D printing (FDM) part: A short review
The staircase effect describes the overall print surface roughness indicated through the layer by layer of Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), also known as the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) process. Due to the poor surface finish, post-processing can improve the aesthetic effect. The different post-processing procedures for FDM parts are classified as material removal and material addition. This paper reviews four types of material addition methods based on chemical coating post-processing techniques; gap filling, coating spray, plating, and water transfer printing of based on production time, cost and related environmental issues. From the review, spray coating generally is cost-effective and less hazardous to the environment. The paper presents a benchmark between the available material addition techniques as a post-processing step for the FDM printed parts.

Optimization of multiple quality characteristics for injection moulded polyamide helical gear via integration of Taguchi method and Grey relational analysis
Considering the great importance of injection moulding in plastic gear manufacturing, it is momentous to effectively control all the influential factors in the plastic injection moulding industry to improve the quality characteristics of the final gear part. As plastic materials exhibit extremely convoluted properties, the complexity of the injection moulding process makes it very challenging to attain the desired gear part properties. Since the intricate injection moulding process produces a wide range of parts with complex shapes within very narrow limits of tolerances, requires a great effort in order to keep the quality characteristics of moulded gears under control. In fact, the optimum properties of the plastic material cannot be achieved even with the most innovative part and mould design, and become meaningless without optimized processing parameters during the gear manufacturing. Therefore, the aim of this study is to propose the integration of Taguchi method/Grey relational analysis optimization approach in designing the gear part, setting up processing parameters, and selecting a suitable material for a helical gear via numerical simulation. The findings implied that an experimental design based on the integration of numerical simulation and Taguchi/Grey relational analysis is capable to enhance the multi-quality characteristic of the helical gear.
