    Investigating the antecedents of cyberbullying

    This research attempted to fill the knowledge gap in cyberbullying by revealing one of the five main themes of cyberbullying that is the antecedents that contribute to the working hypothesis or paradigm model of the phenomenon. The actual research reveals the antecedents and the contexts and prevailing conditions that influence it, as well as the phenomenon, the coping strategies and the consequences resulting from the coping strategies. Using a grounded theory methodology, in-depth interviews were conducted on adolescents aged between 12 to 18 years from different schools in the state of Perlis. The data were analyzed using NVivo 10 by methodically coding and categorizing the data in open, axial and selective coding to arrive at a model development. A paradigm model was obtained based on these themes and subthemes which uniquely contribute to the body of knowledge on cyberbullying phenomenon in Malaysia. The involved elements derived from the model are; the antecedents of cyberbullying; the phenomenon; the coping strategies by informants and the consequences resulting from these strategies. The significance of this study lies in its attempt to provide a working framework for reducing adolescents’ technology abuse that will eventually lead to cyberbullying and to find solutions for adolescents to tackle cyberbullying problems if it ever happened. This study is hoped to benefit all the parties: adolescents, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to minimize adolescents’ cyberbullying phenomenon.

    Artificial Magnetic Conductor to Enhance Microstrip Patch Textile Antenna Performance for WiMAX Application
    A rectangular microstrip patch textile antenna with Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) operated at the center frequency of 5.80 gigahertz (GHz) for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) application was designed and simulated using the CST Microwave Studio 2016 and fabricated in this study. The use of AMC could solve the inflexibility of FR4 substrate that limits human body movement and reduce the radiation scattered on the human body whilst increasing the antenna gain and directivity. The antenna consists of 5 5 square shape gap of AMC unit cells ground layer using ShieldIt Super, five substrate layers using cotton (viscose) fabric as well as patch layer and another ground layer using the same ShieldIt Super. AMC is a metamaterial that imitates the conduct of zero reflection phase of Perfect Magnetic Conductor (PMC) on the resonant frequency not evidently existed in nature. Overall, the antenna with AMC has the significant return loss, S11 below than -30 decibel (dB), gain improved to more than 8 dB, and directivity elevated to more than 9 dBi at resonant frequency near to 5.80 GHz, respectively.

    Evaluating the influence of resident agencies’ participation in flood management via social media, in Nigeria

    Disaster management is conducted in multilevel and different stages. However, these different stages are tied together by the key infrastructural components of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) such as social media which is central to the effectual management of disaster through residents’ participation. Nevertheless, there has been limited access to information technologies that enhance quick recovery services, timely response, and effective dissemination of disaster-related information. Therefore, this study examined the influence of resident agencies’ participation in disaster management via the use of social media information planning and training possibilities (SMDPT) in Nigeria. The study used a survey questionnaire and stratified random sampling technique to collect 370 primary data from flood disaster management agencies in Ibadan, Nigeria. The collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The study found that social media information planning and training (SMDPT) had a positive influence on flood disaster preparedness (DPRE), disaster response (DRES), and disaster recovery (DREC). Therefore, the study concludes that social media has become an important tool for planning during an emergency situation. Hence, an important implication of this study to the environmental regulatory policymakers and emergency response agencies is to create more awareness on the usability and applicability of social media in providing credible information regarding disaster management.
