This study is aimed to develop a mechanical wave machine for educational purpose, particularly for school and matriculation students. The basic properties of waves such as wavelengths and amplitudes are directly observed during the wave’s propagation. Other properties of waves such as refraction, reflection and interferences are also observed. This study highlights the relationship between the waves speed, frequency and wavelengths that are described qualitatively. This wave machine is built at a very low cost with materials that are easily obtained. 13 students have been selected to involve in this study in order to test their understanding on the physics of waves based on the working principle of this wave machine. The test were performed twice; pre-test that were performed before exposure to the wave machine and post-tests that were performed after exposure to the wave machine. The SPSS software was used in this study with alpha value for the instrument is set at = 0.002. As the results, this work has demonstrated wave’s propagation on the wave’s properties that successfully improved students understanding on the waves properties. The relationship between speed, wavelength and frequency have also been addressed qualitatively.
