dc.description.abstract Solar tracking systems are widely used to optimise solar energy absorption however the systems consume more energy and require extra maintenance and cost. The objectives of this paper are to develop a dual-axis solar tracker system and to compare the performance with stationary and single axis tracking solar systems. The dual-axis solar tracking system adopted stepper motor and a linear actuator to achieve both pitch and horizontal moving mechanisms of the photovoltaic module. The energy consumption of this dual axis solar tracking system was 1.38% of the total generated power of the photovoltaic module which was lower than the conventional dual motors dual-axis solar tracking system. The dual-axis solar tracker was programmed accordingly to the shadow effect on the Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) and the microcontroller operated accordingly to the corresponding location of the sun. The system scanned LDRs' value every five minutes to prevent micromovement and minimise energy consumption. The results showed that the energy conversion efficiency of the dual-axis solar tracker system was 20.2% and 50.7% higher than the single axis and stationary solar system.
