Abstract
Adaptive Media Playout (AMP) control is a typical Client-based approach which adapts playout rate according to a network channel fluctuation to obviate playout disturbances. Most AMP techniques adjust playout rate based on buffer fullness, its variation or both. Nevertheless, choosing an appropriate buffer threshold is challenge. Faced with this problem, an AMP control, based on Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), is designed to avoid buffer outage and the challenge in threshold choosing. The FLC is replaced to adapt playout rate, stabilize the buffer fullness around the desired level and reduce playout delay. Simulation have shown that FLAMP technique efficiently outperforms other AMP approaches, where FLAMP gives 12.5% less buffer underflow, 22% less buffer overflow and 11.4% less distortion of variance as compared to APTA.
