Abstract
With growth in wind generation penetration it is imperative to investigate means of ensuring wind farm dispatchability so as to ensure reliability of power supply in future. Battery energy storage system (BESS) is widely considered as a potential solution. This paper presents an easily implementable online approach to adaptively establish best possible reference values for wind farm power dispatch. The approach takes into account the available wind speed forecasts and available state of charge in BESS in each dispatch interval. The proposed approach is validated using real wind farm data and evaluated using multiple simulation case studies to gauge the effects of practical factors such as forecasting errors and variations in BESS state of charge.
