Every year a huge number of dollars are squandered on good coating systems that will flop rashly because of insufficient surface preparation or improper application. Poor cleaning method contributed to poor adhesion, higher rework cost, process delays and dissatisfaction of customers. This study investigates the possibility of assessing the surface cleaning condition at 12 V with different composition of cleaner solution. Metal surface cleanliness measured by water-break test and optical microscope. The effect of the metal cleanliness after powder coating on the surface were determined by Vicker hardness test. The metal-powder coating layer were viewed under scanning electron microscope.
