Quality and Management Planning Tools

There are numerous definition of quality. Even the most popular quality gurus have different definitions of quality. However the definitions have underlying common grounds that embody the discipline of Quality Studies. Over many years, quality practitioners gradually realized that a large number of quality- related problems can be solved using what is known as the “7 basic QC tools”. In addition, quite recently, the “7 basic QC tools” (or “7 management tools”) make their debut into the scene. These can be used in conjunction with the basic tools. Managers and engineers alike should capitalize on these tools when planning and implementing problem-solving as well as improvement projects. This book describes some quality definitions and discusses the use of both basic and new quality tools in a simple manner. It provides an uncomplicated overview for students who are starting their way in exploring quality.

Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tenaga akademik yang gagal menamatkan pengajian Phd. dalam tempoh yang ditetapkan

Kejayaan pelajar ijazah tinggi menamatkan pengajian dalam masa yang telah ditetapkan merupakan perkara yang penting bukan sahaja kepada pelajar tetapi juga kepada pensyarah, penyelia, fakulti dan juga universiti. Sehingga kini kajian tentang mengenalpasti kegagalan pelajar ijazah tinggi terutamanya ijazah doktor falsafah (PhD) tidak pernah dijalankan di Malaysia. Walaupun terdapat kajian yang dijalankan oleh beberapa universiti luar negara, namun konteks perbincangan dalam memahami isu ini adalah berbeza. Dalam konteks IPTA di Malaysia, kerajaan telah membelanjakan jutaan ringgit untuk membiayai pengajian tenaga akademik melanjutkan pengajian di peringkat PhD di dalam dan luar negara melalui program Skim Latihan Tenga Akademik (SLAB/SLAI). Namun peratusan tenaga akademik yang berjaya menamatkan pengajian dalam tempoh ditetapkan adalah agak kecil. Justeru kajian ini dijalankan unuk mengenalpasti faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tenaga akdemik yang gagal menamatkan pengajian PhD dalam tempoh masa yang telah ditetapkan. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif iaitu dengan membangunkan instrument kajian untuk mendapatkan data dari dua puluh (20) IPTA. Secara umumnya, dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa kemahiran penyelidikan adalah penyumbang terbesar kepada kegagalan tenga akademik menamatkan pengajian mereka dalam tempoh yang telah ditetapkan.

The act of measuring and the use of good data to represent the standing of otherwise abstract positions are important. Quality gurus use them in their deliberations regarding what constituted ‘quality’ and what did not. Their intelligent use of the right system of measures has brought tremendous success in the manufacturing industry. Quality assurance that fittingly utilizes measures and indicators has formed the basis of this achievement. In addition, measuring helps compare relative positions, which in turn guides us to formulate whatever steps are needed to make things better. With numbers, people acquire a degree of power that gives them back some control over their lives and undertakings.

Complete solution fulfilment for the manufacturing-based company – how intangible customization of personalization enhances the chances of success

There is a trending demand in the industry to provide customers with total solutions rather than mere products, and as a result, manufacturing-based companies, more than ever, face stiff challenges to deliver complete solutions successfully. To increase their chances of success, project life cycles are applied across solutions development. This study aims to enhance the chances of success through the personalization of project life cycles. It starts with developing a project life cycle upon which personalization can be achieved. A qualitative longitudinal study was conducted to gauge how well the personalization accomplished its aims. The intangible customization of personalization would allow researchers and practitioners to arrive at their own complete solutions that fulfil their customers’ needs.

Business model transformation in the manufacturing company – how custom project governance framework enhances the chances of success

The demand for complete solution providers is trending, and as a result, manufacturing companies, more than ever, are being challenged to transform their approach from hardware-centric to solutions-centric. Failure to do so could be catastrophic. Many companies have started the transformation in order to stay in business and also for enhancement of growth prospects. They work on increasing their chances of success through project governance that applies across a range of solutions. This paper shows that transformation success is enhanced through the use of a custom project governance framework that allows for the selection of the appropriate custom project governance for any solution category. The nature and relationship between the development work and customization of personalization has led the authors to opt for personalization theory as the theoretical lens. This study started with the formulation of the research process, followed by literature review, development work, and finally a qualitative longitudinal study in an advanced analytical equipment company. The positive outcomes from the development work that has been customized for custom solution businesses will allow researchers and practitioners to develop intangible customization of personalization for a project governance framework of their own to aid business model transformation in the manufacturing company.
