Electronic Nose Testing for Confined Space Application Utilizes Principal Component Analysis and Support Vector Machine

A confined space has a limited space for entry and exit but it is large enough for workers to enter and perform work inside. It is not designed for continuous occupancy because it can contribute atmospheric hazards accidents that threaten the worker safety and industry progress. In this work, we reported the testing an instrument to assist workers for atmosphere testing during pre-entry. An electronic nose (e-nose) using specific sensor arrays is the integration between hardware and software that able to sense different concentrations of gases in an air sample using pattern recognition techniques. The instrument utilizes multivariate statistical analysis which is Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for discriminate the different concentrations of gases and the Support Vector Machine (SVM) to classify the acquired data from the air sample. The instrument was successfully tested using diesel, gasoline, petrol and thinner. The results show that the instrument able to discriminate an air sample using PCA with total variation for 99.94%, while the classifier success rate for SVM indicates at 98.21% for train performance and 95.83% for test performance. This will contribute significantly to acquiring a new and alternative method of using the instrument for monitoring the atmospheric hazards in confined space to ensure the safety of workers during work progress in a confined space.

Aquaponic Ecosystem Monitoring with IOT Application

Aquaculture is an agricultural technology that combines aquaculture (fish farming activities) with hydroponic activities (planting crops without soil media) in one circulation. The most important element in aquaculture is the existence of fish, plants, and bacteria. These three elements form a mutually beneficial relationship or symbiotic mutualism. The main purpose of the aquaculture system is to maintain water quality and reduce ammonia levels from the water so that it can be utilized by other organisms. In addition, aquaculture can also save space and can produce two types of human food simultaneously, plants and livestock. Agricultural technology design with Aquaculture also uses the concept of Internet of Things (IoT) as information from sensors and sensors of value generator is accessible through applications installed on smartphones from anywhere with an Internet connection. Development of monitoring of aquaponic ecosystems with IoT systems was developed using a program using micro-controls to control temperature, humidity, pH levels and water pumps. There are some improvements made to this project.

Develop portable blood analyzer based on temperature and quantity level

This technical paper presents a developing portable blood analyzer for monitoring of human blood sample. Perseverance of blood sample in hospitals is important in order to obtain a great quality of blood and therefore it able to determining the human type of disease. This is a life-threatening early step in most medical applications fields such as diagnosis, treatment and medical research. The proposed system consists of three main parts. In the first part, the use of convenient and handy device to deal with the problem of incorrect temperature value and inadequate quantity of blood sample. Most of previous human hospitality services show a fail to handle and properly in time to take human blood sample for diagnosis in a schedule time frame such as not punctual in taking blood sample from a patient in three different times in one day. The consequences is that these blood sample are not in perfect quality for a correct estimation of the human disease towards a pathology unit. The proposed method is a device that uses infrared temperature system and non-contact blood sample quantity detection. In the second part is by combining those two approaches to single programmable electronic modules that are used to minimize the size of the portable device in the resulting techniques to improve the functionality. The third part is accomplished by using a modern technique to produce an interface to provide the value of human blood sample and shows it on display for monitoring purposes. The programmable coding has been test in several different types of sensors and physical part. The experimental results show that this method able to integrate both requirement of human blood sample perseverance with a contactless method towards a blood tube, providing the output value of quality characteristic in a display and making it well-suited for a convenient practical application system. The experimental results in real time applications shows the effectiveness, reliable and efficiency in the proposed approach which able to almost accurately detect and monitor the human blood sample with the ability to detect different types of people gender and blood type. The proposed coding system can be executed at more precise time scheduling which is better than real life human monitoring system.

This paper discussed on the hardware product of renewable energy driven exhaust fan for use in laboratory via IOT. Ventilation is generally deployed in buildings for maintaining user's safety and health. This renewable energy driven exhaust fan is the most considered system in improving the energy saving while sustaining user's safety and health. If we can renew and reuse the energy we waste, it would help in some way to the problem of scarcity of energy, which is major threat of present world. Initial capital cost of solar systems is still quite high when it comes to generate power for domestic. By using the concept of wind turbines wind-generated electricity can be used for battery charging and for connection with the power grid. Hence this research proposes a prototype of Renewable Energy Driven Exhaust Fan for use in laboratory via IOT. This research presents a prototype of regenerating power by an exhaust fan. The generated power can be either used directly or can be stored in a battery. This exhaust fan also can be controlled and monitored via IOT. The objectives of this research are, to design and develop an exhaust fan that can be driven by renewable energy, to design and develop an exhaust fan that can be controlled by IoT and to collect data and analyze the power consumptions and power saving. Methods used in this research is to use power from battery to operate the Fan 1. Than this kinetic energy produced by Fan 1 is used to drive Fan 2 and Fan 3 which are now actually a pair of generators with the help of charging circuit to directly recharge the battery which at first used to power up Fan 1. This research is used to crank start automotive vehicle. There are many different system used in order to start-up vehicles using electric starter, in the time of battery low-power or totally drained. The purpose of this research is to help the driver to get out of this difficulty. Nowadays there are many people that have experienced such a bad moment, where they are stranded at road side due to malfunction starter in their car because of battery problem. Most of the vehicle electric starter failure is because of battery corrosion or battery undercharged. The importance of this research is to solve this problem. Starter is a vital part of the vehicle, without it no automotive vehicles able to operate. These starters will rotate an internal-combustion engine to initiate the engine's operation under its own power. Starters also can be malfunction too due to corroded electrical connections or an undercharged battery. This system can be used to solve this problem. This system used human energy by using mechanical parts in order to produce electrical power. In order to produce electrical current, workforce will be applied by rotating the wheel that already linked by belt and from that rotations will trigger a magnetic force and it will produce an electrical current and supply it into battery. This system is divided into two development; hardware development and software development. The hardware development involved, mechanical device which is used and electrical device such as monitor. For software development, Fritzing is used to construct circuit.

Arduino IOT Based Inventory Management System Using Load Cell and NodeMCU

Nowadays, everything is made simpler with information and communication technological advancements. It is preferable to track and monitor using devices rather than perform it manually. This resulted in the rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) technology and relevant markets. Low cost IoT products has made access to IoT much easier and desirable. These low cost IoT devices and related technologies are widely used in areas such as educational, transportation, tracking, inventory management and many more. The use of Arduino and RFID in the inventory management system lacks in some areas including hardware limitations. In conjunction to the limitation of using an Arduino and RFID technology, this project aims to develop an IoT based inventory management system that incorporates the uses of a NodeMCU and a load cell. In comparison of the NodeMCU to an Arduino, the NodeMCU stands out with the built in Wi-Fi module with much higher processor and additional properties of it being much smaller. While the use of a load cell is much more convenient as to suit all kinds of inventory management needs compared to the use of RFID that suits better to larger scale businesses with larger inventory and massive stocks. Towards the end, this project is expected to ease inventory management by the implementation of IoT with IoT Based Inventory Management System using Load Cell and NodeMCU. The project will generate the inventory count and automatically stores data in the cloud platform. These data can be accessed with internet connection. The project also alerts users when the inventory is low or high in balance. The output of the project is that the project’s working prototype was successfully developed. Overall, the project is a success as all the objectives of the project was successfully achieved.

Parametric Study on The Rice Bran Protein Extraction Process Using Water as a Solvent

Rice bran is a by-product resulting from the milling process that is frequently underutilized as cattle food or disposed through open-burning despite of its high nutritional and nutraceutical properties. Thus, this research aims in recognizing and exploring rice bran and its extraction methods that could further cultivate in the industry. This study focuses on the rice bran extraction process using water assisted with ultrasonication. The relationship between the operational parameters such as the temperature, extraction time and sample-to-solvent ratio to the protein yield were studied. The rice bran protein was subjected to the surface functional group analysis using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). As a conclusion, the extraction temperature of 60°C, sample to solvent ratio of 10 % and extraction time of 25 mins were chosen as the best conditions for the protein extraction. The extraction of the protein from rice bran is highly profitable due to its nutritional and nutraceutical properties as well as it is readily available at low cost.

Spray Drying Optimization for Rice Bran Protein (RBP) Powder Using Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Rice bran is a by-product of the rice milling process which contain a high concentration of protein. It’s are often used as a feed cattle, fertilizer, and fuel. Its application as a source of human nutrition is rare due to high lipid concentration. This lipid concentration can be reduced through the extraction process. After the extraction process, the rice bran extract needs to be converted into powder form through a drying process for the quality preservation. In this study, spray drying is utilized as drying technique. The aims of this study were to optimize the spray drying parameter; inlet temperature, feed flowrate and air flowrate for rice bran protein (RBP) powders production. Box Behnken Design (BBD) model in response surface methodology (RSM) are utilized in this study to maximize the RBP powder yield and protein concentration. Raw rice bran (RRB) was extracted using thermal water-based extraction method before the drying process. The optimum condition suggested by the model are at the inlet temperature of 120oC, feed flowrate of 18.38% and air flowrate of 670 L/hr which produced RBP powder yield of 19.42 g RBP/100g RRB and protein concentration of 17.32 mg/ml. The model obtains in this study show a low error between the predicted value and experimental data at 1.68 % and 1.14 % for RBP powder yield and protein concentration respectively. The model can be used to evaluate the process characteristic and understanding.

Mechanical behaviour on concrete of coconut coir fiber as additive

Fiber is one of the famous waste material in this country and fibre also can be used in order to increase the mechanical properties of concrete. Mechanical properties of concrete will be testing such compression strength and splitting tensile strength. Concrete has low tensile strength due to the brittleness properties. The coconut coir fibre processed by using the fabricated. Then the coconut coir fibre will be a sink in sodium hydroxide for 1 week and in pure water for 2 weeks at room temperature. The authorities that are already going through under treatment gave coconut coir fibre and it had been cut into a size of 25mm to 30mm. Three different ratios used in this research, which is 3%, 4% and 5% of coconut coir fibre as an additive to the concrete. There will be two types of specimens, which are cube size of 100mm x 100mm and cylinder 100mm diameter with 200mm length. All the samples cured in a water tank for 7 and 28days. The rate that had been using for this compression strength and splitting tensile strength follow the British Standard (BS 1881-116:1983). This research outcome is the addition of coconut coir fibre with concrete to increase the compression strength of the cube sample but it has lower strength than normal concrete. Meanwhile, for the splitting tensile strength of this reinforced concrete with coconut coir fibre as an additive has higher strength than normal concrete. The result proved that the addition of fibre will increase the mechanical properties of concrete but at the same time, it will decrease the workability of concrete.

Application System Development of Accident Prevention and Safety Assistance using IoT Application

The number of road accidents in Malaysia shows a steady increment from 2010 to 2019, reported by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia. This project aims to develop a system to prevent an accident by detecting aggressive driving. If an accident occurred, this system would send an alert for an immediate response, which is crucial to reduce the fatality rate. An accelerometer is utilized to detect aggressive driving and accident events. The method to detect aggressive driving is by determining an abrupt change in acceleration. For accident detection, the vehicle tilt angle and acceleration are monitored. An ESP32 SIM800L microcontroller processes the inputs and alert a web-based cloud service and a set phone number by Short Message Service (SMS). The microcontroller is used due to the embedded Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and other wireless communication modules. The small form factor gives an advantage in terms of mounting location flexibility. The alert contains the type of event, time, and location. This report contains the development of the proposed system, which includes the simulation for the system circuit and motion simulation. Accident detection, falls, SMS alerts and online alerts are consistently successful, while aggressive driving detection is inconsistent. Live tracking does not directly work during these detections. In conclusion, this project successfully detects accidents and sends alerts via SMS and internet using a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card.
