Mechanical Design and Analysis of New Staircase Climbing Hand Truck

The transportation of goods on a staircase could give challenges to the users, especially those stay in a high-rise building particularly when the elevators are not in service. There is a variation of existing staircase climbing hand truck designs has been developed; however, some problems were identified. The existing designs have a limitation in terms of wheel system configuration to be used on different staircase sizes. Besides, the designs also possess limited supporting structure areas to accommodate the goods and are less ergonomic for handling and downsizing. The objective of the study was to design a new staircase climbing hand truck that was completed with new functional and ergonomic features to improve the climbing process. Primary and secondary data were collected via observation, interview, and journal articles, followed by design concept development, three-dimensional modelling and analysis, and usability testing. Our findings showed that the proposed design of the hand truck is satisfactory in terms of developed features such as an adjustable wheel frame, foldable nose plate, safety compartments and cables, and adjustable handle. Further improvements might be necessary to enhance the design functionality of the hand truck for the transportation of goods on a staircase.

Mechanical design and analysis of medical gloves remover

Medical gloves play a pivotal role in ensuring clinical and hospital safety, as well as optimizing performance. Throughout the medical field, it has been traditionally understood that medical gloves function as a vital barrier, safeguarding both healthcare providers and patients, thereby diminishing the transmission of infections. Presently, healthcare personnel take off their medical gloves manually, using their hands, before discarding them. Should healthcare workers not diligently follow post-precautionary practices, including thorough handwashing and sanitization, the potential for infection increases significantly. Consequently, it is imperative for this study to explore methodologies for the proper removal of used medical gloves from hands, eliminating the need for direct contact prior to disposal. The primary goal of this study was to design and analyse a removal tool for used medical gloves tailored to minimize the risk of infection. Primary and secondary data were procured through the utilization of observation, interviews, and scholarly journal articles. This was succeeded by a progressive sequence involving the evolution of design concepts, the creation of three-dimensional models, rigorous analytical procedures, and comprehensive assessments of usability. The results of our investigation indicate that the suggested configuration of the medical gloves remover is deemed acceptable with regard to its incorporated features, including the adaptable gloves remover structure, main housing, front panel, disposal bin, and bracket for attachment. However, potential refinements may be requisite to amplify the design’s overall efficacy in facilitating the touchless removal of used medical gloves.

Design and Development of Single-Handed Kitchenware for Individuals with Hand Disabilities

Traditional kitchen equipment often poses significant challenges and risks for individuals with hand disabilities or impairments, increasing the likelihood of burns, cuts, and other injuries during food preparation. For people with physical disabilities or injuries affecting one hand, performing routine cooking tasks can be difficult and time-consuming. The reliance on traditional two-handed kitchen tools limits their ability to cook independently. This study aimed to design and develop innovative single-handed kitchenware equipped with multiple meal preparation tools and ergonomic features to enhance the cooking experience for individuals with hand disabilities. A combination of primary and secondary data was gathered through observations, interviews, and a review of journal articles. The research process involved concept development, three-dimensional modeling and analysis, and usability testing. The results demonstrated that the proposed single-handed kitchenware, made from PLA material, effectively integrates essential features such as a peeler, grater, cutting board, stopping rods, and a storage compartment into a single unit. While the design shows promise in improving meal preparation processes, achieving cutting and peeling speeds that are 51% and 65% faster, respectively, compared to conventional tools, further refinements are recommended. For instance, improvements in the grating function could optimize its overall performance and usability, particularly for individuals with hand impairments.
