Abstract
The effect coupling agent (C-16) on the mechanical properties of the polypropylene coconut coir fiber composites has been studied. The coconut coir was used at 5%, 10%, 15 % (wt. %), while the concentration of the coupling agent is 1% based on PP weight. Tensile test, flexural test, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and water absorption were conducted to determine and analyse the properties. Tensile strength, tensile modulus and both of flexural strength and modulus have found to increase as the fiber loading increase. However, there are significant changes observed in the PP/coconut coir composite properties upon the additional of coupling agent. On other hand, there was low effect on water absorption. Last but not least, currently study provides that, coconut coir reinforced polypropylene composites have good mechanical properties.
