Macroeconomic factors affecting COâ‚‚ emissions in Malaysia: ARDL approach

Environmental degradation has always been discussed by previous studies. This is because environmental degradation can have impacts on human health. The global temperature is expected to continue to increase in the next 100 years. Therefore, it is important to investigate the determinants of COâ‚‚ emissions in the long run and short run in Malaysia. Data ranging from 1985 to 2014 were collected and the ARDL approach was employed. The results show that economic growth can be detrimental to the environment in both of the long run and short run. The results also show that population can have deleterious effects on the environment in the long run only. Therefore, enhancing economic growth and increasing the number of population should be controlled to ensure that the environment can be preserved.

Representasi budaya dan identiti dalam muzik video Lalisa

Pada masa kini, pengaruh Hallyu ataupun gelombang Korea masih tetap dirasai oleh masyarakat dunia. Ini dapat dibuktikan apabila muzik popular Korea yang dihasilkan oleh ramai penyanyi di Korea telah terbukti berjaya menempa nama sehingga ke peringkat antarabangsa. Antara contoh kejayaan adalah menerusi Lisa daripada anggota kumpulan ‘Blackpink’ yang telah mencetuskan fenomena pada tahun 2021 apabila muzik video ‘Lalisa’ telah dinobatkan sebagai muzik video yang mendapat tontonan paling tinggi dalam masa 24 jam di dunia. Oleh itu, dengan menggunakan sampel terhadap muzik video ‘Lalisa’, kajian ini ingin melihat apakah representasi identiti dan budaya yang telah dipaparkan Lisa dalam muzik video ini dengan menggunakan landasan Teori Norma Budaya daripada Melvin De Fleur (1970). Kajian ini juga telah menggunakan kaedah kualitatif analisis tekstual dan mendapati bahawa, walaupun Lisa merupakan penyanyi yang telah menempa nama di Korea Selatan dan dikenali seluruh dunia, namun identiti dan budaya asalnya sebagai anak kelahiran Thailand tetap dikekalkan dan dipromosikan kepada dunia melalui muzik video ini. Ini sekaligus membuktikan bahawa Lisa bukan sahaja seorang penyanyi yang mempunyai nilai patriotism yang tinggi malah juga mempamerkan imej yang amat baik dengan tidak melupakan asal usul beliau.

The Grim Cost of Economic Growth and Environmental Degradation: A Comprehensive Panel ARDL Study of Public Debt in the ASEAN-5 Countries

This study uses panel ARDL analysis to investigate the connections between GDP growth, environmental degradation, and public debt in the ASEAN-5 countries (Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia) from 1996 to 2021. It appears that economic development can increase public debt, but investment can reduce public debt in the long run. Moreover, there is a positive correlation between savings and public debt, but only in the short run. These findings raise important considerations for policymakers in striking a balance between economic development, environmental sustainability, and public debt. This study also suggests that savings may positively affect public debt in Indonesia. In contrast, investment may raise debt in the short term in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore. The possible effects of corruption on public debt in the Philippines and environmental damage in both that country and Thailand are also highlighted. Keeping public debt at a manageable level requires policies that balance economic development and environmental protection, as emphasized by this research.

The role of sense of purpose, time management, attendance, sleep and self-esteem in academic performance among university students in Malaysia

This research delves into the dynamics influencing the academic performance of undergraduate students in Malaysian universities, specifically examining the role of self-esteem, sense of purpose, time management, sleep quality, and class attendance. With a calculated sample size of 384 obtained from purposive sampling, the study reveals compelling insights. This study aims to determine how students perform in university and what factors contribute the most to their academic performance. The findings underscore the significant influence of self-esteem, sense of purpose, and class attendance on academic performance. These results illuminate the relationship between psychological and behavioral factors in shaping students' success in the academic sphere. Understanding how these variables relate to academic outcomes provides educators and institutions with valuable information for tailoring support mechanisms and interventions to enhance students' overall educational experience. In the unique context of Malaysian universities, this research contributes to the broader discourse on factors that contribute to or hinder academic performance among undergraduate students.

The impact of the big five personality traits on work engagement among Malaysian public universities academics

This study focuses on the public universities’ academics work engagement levels based on the individual personality traits that influences them. It is believed that individual personality has a credentials to a person’s attitude or features, which most of the time, being influenced by internal and external factors. Thus, in this study context, researchers’ intented to test academics’ personality while their engaging with their tasks. This study executed in Malaysia context, survey tested on 147 participants or said 147 academics. The participation indicates 64% of responses. Later, the responses of questionnaires were coded thru SPSS version 26. There are six analyses were executed in this study, namely descriptive analysis, normality analysis, reliability tests, Pearson correlation analysis, simple regression analysis and also multiple regression analysis. Results shows that Big Five personality model are interrelated and correlated with work engagement which aligned with previous studies, except for agreeableness personality that been contradicted with past research in this study context. There is high possibility due to various situational issues, such as in aspect of sampling method or misinterpretation by respondents. Moreover, this study tends to be a contribution to literature and stepping stone for more outcomes. Future studies were proposed.

The effects of international migration on male unemployment in Malaysia

In Malaysia, male employment plays an important role in families as they are breadwinners. However, an increase in international migrants can cause them to be unemployed. Other than that, the number of male employment is higher than the number of female employment. In addition, the number of international migrants also exhibit an increasing trend. This situation has alarmed economists and policymakers. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of international migration on male unemployment in Malaysia from 1982 to 2015. The Autoregressive Distributed Lags (ARDL) technique was employed and the results show that international migrants do not harm the labour force in Malaysia in the long run. This is because Malaysia needs foreign workers in some crucial sectors such as agriculture and construction. However, the results of the causality test reveal that migration can influence male unemployment in the short run. Therefore, it is imperative for policymakers to introduce policies to alleviate the problem of male unemployment, such as controlling the number of permits for foreign workers to work in the sectors that are dominated by local male workers.

Coal consumption as a moderator in the link between industrial output and life expectancy in ASEAN nations

This study examines the relationship between industrial output and life expectancy in ASEAN countries from 2000 to 2021, emphasizing coal consumption as a moderating factor. Using the Panel ARDL method, the findings reveal that industrial output positively impacts life expectancy, highlighting the economic benefits of industrialization, such as improved healthcare access and job creation. Model 1's industrial output coefficient is 0.1542, while Model 2's is 0.2352, both models giving a p-value of 0.0000. However, this positive effect is significantly offset by coal consumption, which detracts from life expectancy due to environmental degradation and health hazards such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. This coefficient is 0.0722 (p-value: 0.0000) in Model 2 and 0.8457 (p-value: 0.0000) in Model 1. The study further shows that the interaction between industrial output and coal consumption exacerbates these adverse effects, underlining the critical need for sustainable industrial practices. Practical implications include the necessity for targeted green policies, such as phasing out coal subsidies, adopting renewable energy technologies, and implementing carbon taxation, to mitigate the detrimental health impacts of coal consumption while maintaining industrial growth. Identifying critical thresholds, such as coal consumption exceeding 50% of the energy mix or industrial output growth surpassing 5–10% annually without corresponding energy efficiency improvements, provides actionable insights for policymakers. These findings highlight the importance of balancing industrial development with sustainable health and environmental outcomes through informed policy interventions.
